Exciting News about Volunteers at Oakley Park

Volunteers may return to our Walled Lake Schools beginning in October on a limited basis. Since re-opening schools last November, we have worked very hard to keep everyone healthy by minimizing potential exposures. While we are very excited to see volunteers back in our school, we want a well thought out plan that does not jeopardize the many things we’ve put in place to keep our children and staff happy, safe and in school.

I ask that you please do not reach out to teachers at this time inquiring about volunteer opportunities. Our classroom teachers will contact parents about any future volunteer opportunities at the appropriate time.

A Message from the Walled Lake Food Service Supervisor

Dear Families,

It is likely you and your children have been noticing many menu changes for breakfast and lunch. Due to nationwide shortages for food and food supplies, we are not receiving many of our ordered items. We do continue to ensure that school meals meet the program requirements and nutrition standards found in federal regulations. (WLCSD Wellness Policy)

With that being said, we will continue to update our menus online at https://wlcsd.org/food-service/ as these changes happen. Please note, sometimes we are not aware of the shortage until the truck arrives without it. I understand this can be frustrating and I apologize for the challenges this may cause.

Please contact me directly with questions:

Sincerely,

Julie Fortner, Food Service Department Supervisor

End of the Day Plan Changes

Please be sure to always include the office staff when emailing teaches regarding changes in the end of school plan for your child! In the event you need to pick your student up prior to dismissal, we ask that you do so before 3:40 p.m. Emailing teachers and office staff regarding an early dismissal is very helpful to all.

Week #1 OPE PTA Raffle Update

Congratulations Owl families, we had an amazing first week of our raffle. We saw how hard the kids worked and are so proud of their efforts! I am happy to report that we had the BEST week 1 turn-in EVER! That puts us well on our way to our goal, but don't stop now Owls! The more tickets we are able to sell, the more fun, enriching activities we are able to plan! The kids will find out on Monday morning which class is in the lead, who the first three book fair gift certificate winners are, and who is going to get a rainbow owl popit for selling $40 or more. Opie told me there are more than 100 popit winners for the first week!

We continue to fill ticket requests every morning, there is a picture of the request form below that you can print at home if need be. Remember there is no limit on how many tickets you can sell and every sale helps build up the experience at OPE for everyone. Let's break that 2019 record!

Sincerely,

Jessica Maurer, OPE PTA President

If a student tests positive for COVID, they will be isolated for a minimum of 10 calendar days based on the recommendations from the OCHD. All families in that classroom will receive a letter regarding the positive case. The letter also reminds recipients to monitor their child's health closely and if he/she begins experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms, stay home, consult your medical provider and get tested for COVID-19.

We continue to urge all families to check your child's health daily and make decisions that will keep our community healthy and safe. Please check for the following symptoms:

  • Fever/Chills
  • Cough
  • Fatigue
  • Headache Sore throat

UPDATED: Mask Reminder

You may have learned that the Michigan Legislator questioned the Oakland County Health Division’s Mask Mandate based on the recent Michigan Budget Bill. Provided, the Governor’s statement and in consultation with our attorney, we are required to uphold the OCHD’s Mask Mandate. Moving forward, the mask criteria as of the beginning of this school year will remain in place. If the Governor or the OCHD make further changes in the future, we will communicate in a timely manner.

Meanwhile, this update is also reflected in our FAQs, available to all parents.

Due to this OCHD mandate, the following protocols are required:

  • Masks are required in all of our schools and facilities.
  • Masks are required on our buses.
  • Masks are not required outside (ex. recess).
  • Masks are not required while eating or drinking.
  • Mask Breaks: Please note that teachers will take their classes outside for periodic mask breaks throughout the school day.

Water Bottles: Please remember to send your child to school with a reusable, plastic water bottle. Our drinking fountains are closed. Refilling stations are still open.
