October is: Bullying Prevention and National Principal Month
Happy Fall!
Families,
We are excited to begin October and welcome in the beautiful Fall weather. At my home, the Fall season brings an increase in hockey games, more gymnastics events, yard clean-up for decorating, and at least one trip to an apple orchard. I hope that the Fall season has some opportunities for your families to get together and enjoy the opportunities that the cooler weather brings.
At school, Fall brings our beginning of the year assessments, a dive into curriculum, our annual trunk or treat, and many opportunities for students and staff to connect with each other. We are excited to host a Fall clean-up event on October 10th from 3:45-5:00 and hope that you join us for that. Check out the flier that came home or the event on our school facebook page.

October is National Bullying Prevention Month
As we are spending more time together as a school family we are noticing that students are being asked to use communication skills that they haven't spent as much time on due to the pandemic. One of the things that we notice is that when students are exhibiting mean or nasty behavior many are quick to call it bullying. While there are instances of bullying, much of what we are hearing from students is children being mean or nasty to each other. Below is a document that talks about the differences.
We are also sharing a little video about Bullying Prevention and on October 20th we will celebrate Unity Day by encouraging our students to wear Orange!
We will share this with the parents as well so that they see these things. We encourage you to talk to your class about the differences listed on the "Is it Bullying Handout" below.
Parent Involvement
Another way that you can participate in the life of the building is by attending the Coffee with the Principal events each month. As we move into the year we will be planning opportunities for families to partner with us during those meetings. Your voice is important and we would love to know how you want to work together.
We are partnering with Hilbert Elementary and Wayne RESA to host parent events 8 times throughout the school year! These events will be held at either Beech or Hilbert and will have opportunities for family dinners, child care, and collaboration between the school and families. In order for us to ensure we have the appropriate space and food available we ask that you check out the information below and let us know if you are interested in attending. A RSVP for each event will be shared leading into them as well!
