Curriculum Update
Writing- Now that the students have been introduced to argument writing through a practice piece on the pros and cons of serving chocolate milk at school, they will now move on to selecting their own argument topic for the next writing piece.
Word Study- The students will receive their second spelling list Monday. The choice board activities are due by Friday. The spelling DG will also be given Friday.
Social Studies-Our new topic of study is the Great Depression. We will begin with the Stock Market Crash of 1929, move on to a look at the devastation of natural disaster known as the Dust Bowl, discuss Herbert Hoover, Hoovervilles, and Franklin D. Roosevelt and his New Deal.
Math - In our geometry unit we will continue working with polygons. Our daily grade will be on Tuesday and the test will be on Friday. Students need to recognize the attributes of the figures that we have studied and know where each belongs on the hierarchy for triangles and quadrilaterals.
Science - The Law of the Conservation of Mass states that we cannot create matter, nor can we destroy it. The students are learning that the sum of the mass of all the parts of something equals the total mass. They have had lots of practice with that this week. We will have a daily grade covering this and magnification on Tuesday. On Thursday we will begin learning about physical changes.
