Memorial's Math Workshop Model
In an effort to meet the needs of each individual learner, Memorial School has created a math block that provides an opportunity for all students to access Tier I instruction, participate in differentiated small groups and engage in rigorous and relevant center activities that activate previous learning, promote student discourse and application of skills. As a building-wide goal, Memorial staff are participating in various professional learning opportunities, Instructional Data Team meetings and coaching sessions to create and implement a math workshop model of instruction in their classrooms. The creation of math FAST (Focused Academic Support Time) provides classroom educators and interventionists with an additional block of time for targeted interventions to close learning gaps, as determined by standardized assessments. Both the math workshop structure and FAST block are unique to individual grade-level teams and teachers, based on student data.
