PANTHER PROGRESS
February 2021 Issue 7
MESSAGE FROM ADMINISTRATION
Lincoln Family -
Tentatively, February will be an impactful month with students that selected hybrid returning on the week of Tuesday, February 16th. Instructional schedules for both hybrid and virtual will change as well. Students' HYBRID cohorts/groups, teacher assignments, and preliminary instructional schedules were mailed out this week, so please make sure to check your mailbox. February 3rd and 10th will be asynchronous learning days, with more information coming from your child's current teacher.
Again, we wanted to thank all the families for providing a response with your intention of HYBRID or FULL VIRTUAL tentatively starting February 16th. As we shared in the past and within the survey itself, there will be class changes based on what you selected. We recognize that this will be challenging for many of us, but we have done our best to minimize the number of changes to make this transition as smooth as it can be. We have taken the 614 student surveys and met with grade level teachers to strategically make adjustments based on intention forms, transportation, siblings, and even shared housing. With safety still being our number one priority, we continue to prepare our school to support social distancing throughout our beautiful school. If there is another delay with when students return based on Dr. Alban's decision, that information will be shared with our Lincoln CommUNITY immediately. We are working endlessly to make sure we are providing you the latest and greatest information during these evolving times. As always, please reach out to your principal, Mr. Rhodes at eric.rhodes@fcps.org or 240-236-2650 if you have any additional questions.
Together.

BLACK/AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH
The Frederick County Public Schools Public Affairs Department is sponsoring a systemwide Black History Month Writing Contest, encouraging students to write and submit entries about the contributions of Frederick Douglass and Harriet Tubman. Contest rules vary by grade levels with different writing prompts for grades kindergarten through two and grades three through five.
A team of volunteers will evaluate the entries from all schools and determine two winners per level. The Public Affairs Department will video the final two winners from each level as they read their entries at their school the third week of February. Videos will air on FCPS TV and YouTube channels and via FCPS Maryland social media the fourth week of February.
Primary students are encouraged to write a sentence about Frederick Douglass or Harriet Tubman. Intermediate students are encouraged to write a one- to two-paragraph essay entitled Who Was Frederick Douglass? or Who Was Harriet Tubman?
If you have questions or would like more details, please contact Mr. Blair, fifth grade teacher and Equity Representative, at crosby.blair@fcps.org.
