The Principal's Den
Computer Science Education Week starts next week and every year during that week schools around the world participate in the Hour of Code. During the week of December 5-9, the library will become our SVES Hour of Code headquarters! Instead of regular library classes that week, GT Specialist Tara Yancy and Librarian Tracie Bennett will have the library set up each day for classes to come in and code for an hour.
Bright Bytes Parent & Student Survey - Take 5 minutes to help your child's school make technology decisions. This is an anonymous survey regarding your technology use. It will take approximately 5 minutes to complete. Your answers are very important! They will help your child's school choose the right technology for their classrooms. There are no right or wrong answers. Everyone will have a different set of answers to these questions, depending on his/her different experiences. Thank you for your time and ideas! Just click HERE to participate.
Cell Phones - Many of our students either walk or ride their bike to and from school. Your student is permitted to use their cell phone if you have asked them to call or text you before they leave the school in the afternoon. We do need your assistance in one particular area. We have noticed several students who are using their phones when walking down the stairway or while walking on the sidewalk next to our car line. Some students are also distracted with their phones when teachers are in the process of getting the students ready to leave the building. We do not want any student to become injured in any way or miss important information that may be shared so if we see a student trying to text or call during these times, we will ask them to put their phone away until they can stop and safely communicate with you. We appreciate any and all support that you can provide.
Bikers & Walkers - We are so happy to have so many of our students walk or ride to school each day. As you are aware, our neighborhood is growing more and more. With growth comes additional traffic. Please help your student be aware of the traffic around them to ensure that once they have been safely crossed at Horseman & Canchim by our crossing guard that they continue to stay on the sidewalks and know how & where to cross the street if needed within the neighborhoods. We have had some reports of students attempting to cross in an unsafe manner. We want ALL of our Bobcats to arrive to school and at home safely!! Thank you!
SVES Survey - I want to thank the many people that took part in our First Ever SVES Parent Survey! We had about 50 respondents take the survey & the information provided was very informative. Your feedback is crucial to helping us continue all the great things that we've started and to help us improve in other areas.
Winter Parties
·On Friday, December 16th, our students will be celebrating the holiday season! We will begin our day in the cafeteria with a Holiday Pep Rally from 8:00-8:45. Our Co-Curr teachers and those staff members without a homeroom will lead students in a variety of fun winter songs & games.
Our Snowflake Winners will be announced between 8:45-9:00. The Snowflake winner is a teacher or staff member who earned the most snowflakes from our Snowflakes for the Storehouse contest. That teacher or staff member will wear a Santa suit for the rest of the school day!
Winter parties will then begin at the following times:
- 9:15-10:15 – K-2 parties
- 9:45-10:45 – 3-6 parties
The cafeteria will be making sack lunches that day and students will enjoy their lunch with their classmates & teacher in their classrooms.
And don't forget...we do have early dismissal on December 16th. Dismissal will begin at 11:55 am.
