Notes from Mrs. Hamp

  • Thank you to those who donated post-it notes and pencils. If you would still like to donate these items, I will be more than happy to take them off your hands.

  • This week is the annual turkey feather donation week. Each grade level will be collecting money to help purchase toys for Toys for Tots. The grade level that raises the most money will get to watch a movie during their lunch period.

  • Thank you to all that came out for the Veteran's Day Pancake dinner. It was a great event that was enjoyed by all.

  • The topic 6 math study guide has been placed in your student's google drive account. I will also be uploading their colony commercial they created onto their google drive as well. They should have written their username and password into their agenda page on Friday.

What are we learning about this week?

Phonics: Latin Suffixes: -ation and -ition

Math: We will continue our work on multiplying decimals. This week we will be multiplying decimals by a whole number as well as multiplying decimals with decimals. At the end of the topic we will be working on word problems that require us to use more than one step. We will close out this week with our Topic 6 test on Friday.

Reading: This week we will be working on informational text structures while we learn about the French and Indian War, the Boston Massacre, the Boston Tea Party and taxation. We will use the text structures cause and effect, compare and contrast, and create a time line while we learn about these historical events. As we look into the cause and effect structure, we will be analyzing the French and Indian war, and for a little fun, we will be using candy to help understand what taxation was in the 1700s.

Writing: We will be creating a journal entry about the Boston Massacre and writing from different points of view. We will take information that we have learned to help us support our point of view and provide details to our writing.
