GEOGRAPHY BEE WINNER ANNOUNCED

Elijah Hance Wins Geography Bee

Bedford Junior High would like to Congratulate 8th grade student, Eli Hance. Eli was our Geography Bee winner at our school competition held on Thursday, December 3. This was a record breaking Geography Bee. In the final round of competition, the two finalists, Eli Hance and Jatin Rao, had to go through an unprecedented 6 rounds before Eli won! Eli will now advance on to the state competition with an opportunity to advance to the National Geography Bee and compete for a scholarship worth $50,000. He will also participate in February in our District level competition at Pat May. Congratulations again to Eli on an outstanding performance!

SPELLING BEE WINNER ANNOUNCED

Jatin Rao Wins Spelling Bee

Congratulations to 8th grader Jatin Rao for winning the BJH Spelling Bee and 8th grader Brendan Frizzell for coming in as runner up. Out of 215 words spelled among 24 participants, the bee was quite exciting as students competed for the chance to ultimately compete in the national spelling bee. Jatin will advance to the district bee on January 29th. The winner of that bee moves to the regional bee in February. Congratulations to all our participants for a job well done, and let's cheer Jatin to victory!

Artist at Work

Congratulations to Min Jun Joung for submitting the winning piece for the BJH holiday card. Over one hundred 7th, 8th, and 9th grade BJH art students competed in the BJH annual holiday card design competition. Students were asked to depict a favorite winter holiday or a winter scene. The artwork was narrowed down to three finalist, Min Jun Joung, Ariana Bradley, and Alex Donnell. The artwork selected will serve as the campus holiday greeting card and sent around the district.

Kaidence Donahue

Kaidence was recognized at a recent school board meeting for her artwork submitted last year as an elementary student. Kaidence's artwork along with another student will be combined to serve as the official HEB ISD holiday greeting card. Kaidenece received a framed certificate and her original artwork. Congratulations!

FRESHMAN SHIRTS

It is time to order freshman class shirts! Freshman shirts are available to freshmen only and are available for a limited time! The shirts will be Columbia blue with navy and white lettering on them and are available in short sleeve and long sleeve. Be sure to order a shirt for your student by December 18th. You can download the t-shirt order form from the BJH Website on the Downloads page.

2015-16 TEACHER OF THE YEAR - SUSAN ROMERO

Congratulations to Susan Romero for being selected Bedford Junior High’s Teacher of the Year.

Mrs. Romeo has been a teacher at BJH for seven years and she works as a Special Education teacher serving students in our FACI program. Mrs. Romero works tirelessly and relentlessly to provide the very best instruction for all of her students every single day. Mrs. Romeo’s Bronco Pride runs deep as all three of her kids attended Bedford JH and LD Bell. We are proud and honored to have Mrs. Romero represent BJH as our Teacher of the Year.

YEARBOOK NEWS

9th Grade Ads

Each year, the BJH yearbook includes a special section containing childhood pictures of the 9th grade graduating class. In this section, parents are given the opportunity to show their pride in their student and wish them continued success as they move on to high school. You can share your memories of your student by providing the yearbook staff with your favorite photo and a completed 9th Grade Baby Ad form. You can find the form on the Yearbook page when visiting the BJH website (see the link in the left navigation). You may drop the photo and form off in the front office or email both the form and the digital photo to Mrs. Keneda (susannahkeneda@hebisd.edu). DEADLINE FOR PARENT ADS WILL BE FRIDAY, DECEMBER 18TH.

ATTENDANCE HAS BENEFITS

Semester Exams are coming up after winter break and if your student has excellent attendance they can earn exam exemptions for the first semester.


Students may earn exam exemptions according to the following schedule.


0 Absences = 2 exam exemptions

1-2 Absences = 1 exam exemption

HOME ACCESS CENTER FYI

Ever wonder when you are viewing your students grades what all those different letters represent in the teacher gradebook?


This is what it means:



  • 0 for students that cannot make up assignment
  • 1 for students that work is incomplete, potentially turn into a 0 or a 50 (usually going through LWLD)
  • X for students that are exempt from assignment (this does not affect average)
  • Z for students that were absent and can get full credit (averages as a 0)

ATHLETIC RESULTS

9TH GRADE GIRLS BASKETBALL

Well the girls 9th grade did it again, coming from behind to beat Fossil Ridge 36 to 35. Keeping their undefeated regular season in tact.
Offensive leaders were: Alexia Esparza, Kadie Wengert, and Reagan Mills. Alexia Esparza led the defense and leading rebounders were: Olivia Runne, Rebekah Sharp, and Taelynn DeHart.

9TH GRADE BOYS BASKETBALL

Freshmen Boys Basketball A team got another win Tuesday night 57-28 over the Joshua Owls.

Zion Hardy had 22 points and Malik Caper poured in 20 more.


We play in the Grapevine tournament this weekend starting with our first game on Thursday at Noon against the Grapevine Mustangs. The B team will also be playing in the tournament this weekend, starting at noon on Thursday against the Grapevine Mustangs as well.

8TH GRADE GIRLS BASKETBALL

The 8th grade Lady Broncos played Watauga last night at home.

B team came out with a win, 30-7.

High scorer was Bryanna Barney.

Defensive player of the game goes to Skylar Vandergriff and Katie Marcy

A team played a tough game and fought all the way to the end, but ended up with a loss, 47-49.

High scorer was Clair McDonald.

Defensive layer of the game goes to Abi Wilson and Piper Boswell. ​

8TH GRADE BOYS BASKETBALL

Both Teams played Watauga last night at Watauga MS.

B team won 41-17. Braden and Taylor burgan both worked hard on the offensive and defensive boards.

A team won 60-33. Jaden wells led the team in scoring with 14 points.

7TH GRADE GIRLS BASKETBALL

Congratulations to the 7th grade girl's A & B basketball teams, they both defeated Watagua this week. Way to go Lady Broncos!


The A team won 47-16.

The team was led by both captains. Jessica Morgan scored 12 points and Ella Rodgers scored 10 points.

The B team won 23-9.

Natalie Alexander led the team in both defense and offense scoring 10 points.

7TH GRADE BOYS BASKETBALL

The A team lost 39-48 against a very large and skilled Watagua team.

Kani Bridgewater had 19 points and Tyler Mauro added a few big baskets to keep the team within striking distance.


The B team defeated Watagua's B team 14-15 in overtime.

B team erased a 9 point lead in the second half led by scoring by Isiayah Alexander and Armando Calderon.

7th and 8th Grade Boys Cross Country

The boys Cross Country teams ran in the HEB district meet on Tuesday at Meadow Park. The 8th grade A Team placed 2nd while the 8th grade B Team placed 1st.

The 7th grade A Team placed 3rd and the 7th grade B Team placed 1st.
