Key Updates
Report Cards
Please ask your child to see their report card. They came home today! You can also view them on FOCUS. Below are some tips on discussing report cards with your child.
- Always point out their strengths first.
- Praise their progress and effort. This will build confidence so they are eager to continue working hard.
- Read the report card with your child and find some areas they would like to improve.
- Once you have identified the areas to improve, help your child set some goals. This could be reading nightly or practicing math facts daily.
- Finally, always reach out to your child's teacher if you have questions about how they are progressing.
Parent Conference Night
If you would like to attend schedule a virtual parent conference night with your child's teacher, please email him/her. We have allotted November 5 as Surfside Parent Conference Night. These will be scheduled directly with teachers, not through the front office.
We have seen an increase in the number of cases here on campus. We remain vigilant in following Covid protocols set by the district. Our classrooms are cleaned often and we remind students often to wash hands. Please encourage your kids at home to follow these same measures. The more that we encourage healthy habits, the safer everyone will be.
The School Board voted on Tuesday to no longer allow face shields to be used without a mask, unless the instruction requires those participating to see each other's mouths. A good example of this is a Speech Pathologist. In order to learn how to articulate sounds, students need to be able to see the mouth of the teacher. This would be a case where shields are allowed. Masks are still strongly encouraged for K-2 and required for 3-12.
Each time there is a case on campus, we notify the entire school and send an additional notification to the classroom that had a positive case. Please know that if your child is ever a contact to a case, you will be notified. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call the office.
Playground
With health and safety measures in place, our school playground will open next week. One class will be allowed to use the playground at a time. Students will have to wash or sanitize hands prior to playing and after they finish playing. Our custodial team will sanitize the equipment daily.
Dress Code
Please encourage your student to follow dress code when attending school. Lately we have noticed a lot of students wearing flip flops and cut-off shirts. Flip flops present a safety issue when students are playing outside or attending PE. Cut-off shirts that show stomachs are not appropriate for school. Students will be sent to the office to change if these shirts are worn.
Please stay safe this weekend! Have fun and enjoy your families. We will see you on Monday!
