Brief History
The Department of Homeland Security was created in 1917 to protect the country form internal and external threats.The vision of homeland security is to ensure a homeland that is safe, secure, and resilient against terrorism and other hazards. Keeps the country safe .The senate and house of rep. passes the bill that funds the DHS. The war on terrorists is the DHS main focus as of today 2016.

Fun Facts about DHS
- The department was created in 2002 to protect the country fro m terrorists as part ot the patriotic act.
- The seal of the department carries several important symbols. The shield in the center is divided into three sections, for land, sea and air.
- The air has 22 stars in the night sky, representing the 22 agencies that came together to form the department. The 13 arrows in the eagle’s left claw and the 13 olive branches in his right claw represent the 13 original colonies.

The DHS partake in arresting illegal immigrants. Necessary background checks are used to filter out unfit patrons for our country. Background checks allow our country to know a brief history of the immigrants past.
