Week 3 Easter Term Friday 23rd January 2015
This week the children were assessed on their knowledge and skills of preparing an investigation which is fair, with one changing factor. The began by making simple circuits then chose what part of the working circuit they wanted to change. We also looked at how different countries use different amounts of electricity. We discussed why some countries use less or use more. Next week the children will begin to think about and plan their electronic game that they are going to make in the following week.
With our Café Strategy of understanding the difference between fact or opinion, the children created facts and opinions about pictures. They decided what was a fact or opinion in a "Top Ten" list.
This week we used our writer's editing glasses to re read our book, check our word choice and spelling, check for punctuation and the flow of our sentences. We will continue with our unit of study on 'How To' procedural writing up until Chinese New Year.
Our Handwriting focused on the joined-up letters of 'oa'.
Our Spelling this week was all about the silent letter g, k and w. Next week we look at compound words which will also be our focus for Grammar. Grammar lessons have continued to focus on singular and plural words. The children changed singular words to plural and used the plural word to write sentences.
In Maths this week we consolidated our learning on length and completed our end of unit assessment. We used the model method to solve addition and subtraction problems involving length and can now, confidently and independently, use both the part-whole method and the comparison method. We can now also solve multiplication and division word problems involving length, too. End of unit assessments will be sent home on Monday. Please return these, signed, by Friday 30th January.
Next week in maths we will be beginning our new unit on 2-step addition and subtraction word problems. We will learn which operation (+ or -) we should use and will use models to help us solve these problems.
Global Family Day - Thursday 5th February 2015.
