Writing Project Ideas
Challenge yourself and be creative!
Introduction
Here are some ideas for writing projects. You might work on one big project or several smaller ones. The choice is yours. If you have your own ideas, please check with Mrs. Cowan or Mrs. Garver so we know what you're up to and how we can support your writing.
Be sure to share all your work in Google Classroom.
Picture Books
Maybe you have a great poem that you'd like to turn into a picture book, or maybe you'd like to write a brand-new story and illustrate it. You can create an e-book on your iPad using Slides or draw all your pictures by hand and sew your book together. Maybe you want to make a pop-up book or something interactive. There are many ways to make a book, so use your imagination!
Choose-Your-Own Adventure
If you love Choose-Your-Own Adventure books, why not Write-Your-Own Adventure? If you use Slides, you can add links to other slides, so your reader can decide whether to go down the dark path or climb up the rickety ladder. It's easy to add pictures, so you can illustrate your story if you like.
Comic Books and Graphic Novels
If you love to draw, you may want to create a comic strip or a graphic novel. Check out Raina Telegemeier's books for some great mentor texts.
Stop-Motion Movies
Use the Playmobil playsets or Legos and make a stop-motion movie. Be sure to write a script first to plan the action shots.
Songs
Write song lyrics and add music with Garage Band.
Anthology
Collect your favorite work from this year (or the past few years) and create an anthology. You could put it all in a three-ring binder or sew the pages together for a custom look.
Video Game
Use Bloxels to create a video game. Create your own storyline, including the characters and setting. Add signs and dialogue to make it even more interesting.
Letters
Tell someone how you feel! Write a letter to someone to say thank you, to send encouragement, or to ask for their help. Write to your favorite author to tell them you enjoy their books. Write a letter to yourself in the future with a "Don't open until______" message and keep it in a safe place!
Book Reviews
Write a book review and attach it to the bookshelves so future readers can get good recommendations.
