Apple IDs for Students
Student Apple ID Process
We will send letters home on Friday and send a Connect Ed to inform the parents of the letter. Help will be available for parents and students on TMS Family Night on November 6th.
An Apple ID is necessary for the proper use of the devices that are in use with our students. Several of the programs that teachers are wanting to use with our students require that an Apple ID be on the computer. All parents will be notified that an account is being created. Apple IDs are divided up into three categories:
-
1) Students under 13 years of age
-
2) Students 13 and over with own Apple ID
-
3) Students 13 and over without Apple ID
Process for Students under 13 years of age
It is necessary for us to collect the following information: Student name
Student email address Student school of attendance Valid parent email account
It will be up to the school to collect and verify this information. Suggestions would be to export what the school has in PowerSchool and upload it to a google sheet that is shared with teachers at the school. Teachers can look at the file and correct or fill in any inaccurate or missing email addresses. The school will designate an individual to upload this information into the Apple ID system.
The students that remain without parent email would need to be contacted to update that information. If the parent does not have an email account. We can invite them to the school to create an email account with google. If they do not want to have an email address, they can come to the school and use an email account that technology department will provide. The account can be activated by the school designee to that email in order to create an apple ID and complete the process at school.
When information is gathered the school designee can upload into the system.
If a parent does not want the student to have the ability to change password then they should set up the security questions and not share the answers with student.
Students 13 and over with own Apple ID
Use their current Apple ID
Students 13 and over without Apple ID
Students create an account utilizing our process of starting with a free application. This will allow for the account creation without the use of a credit card. Parents are encouraged to create this at home with their student. Otherwise it will be created at school.
