announcements
- Please continue to work on your SPSA. I have sent out calendar invites for specific due dates. Reach out to myself or any partner if you would like strategic thought partnership.
- Please read carefully the email from Diana Iniguez. She may be giving you information that you did not know. Through the HR department's intent to return forms they have identified teachers who have determined they will not return to the site for next year.
- Please fill out this form to share the 2020-2021 staffing vacancies you are already aware of. The form also has a link to OUSD's separation form - please remind any employees who are leaving OUSD to fill this out as this needs to happen before you can begin the formal posting and hiring process for their position -- and tips on how to navigate Recruit and Hire.
- Please continue to share ELPAC testing tips with each other.
- As soon as we get the budget one-pagers I will send out a calendar invite for an options meeting.
- Please give us feedback on last Thursday's PPL - Learning Walk and afternoon SPSA session at Global -- thank you to those who already took 5 minutes to do so!. It helps us refine and hone our agendas in service of your needs:)
- The Black Teacher Project is a powerful program within National Equity Project; its mission is to sustain, develop and recruit Black teachers; its vision is that all children have access to a well-prepared, well-supported Black teaching force that reflects the diversity and excellence of Black people in the United States. Please share this link with your staff; there are also a number of events and engagements of interest this month (we will forward the latest email for more expedient dissemination).

instructional updates
Dear Leaders,
To fully align with the demands of Common Core Standards, OUSD has introduced a new literacy model centered around standards-based texts and tasks (see “Literacy - The OUSD Way”). (Wes shared this with principals earlier in the year.) OUSD plans to adopt a new comprehensive language arts program aligned to this model within the next two years. The literacy team is seeking teachers, coaches and principals to support in piloting, selecting and implementing new materials.
To reach our district goals of selecting, adopting and utilizing a high-quality curriculum, we are launching two teams: a Curriculum Steering Committee and a cohort of EL Education Piloting Schools. We hope you will consider joining us on one of these teams!
All the info you need is found in the 2019-20 Elementary ELA Instructional Materials Pilot and/or Steering Committee Memo.
To be clear, schools who are already piloting or have adopted Benchmark’s Adelante/Advance curriculum will be able to continue the use of this curriculum. We would like to encourage schools that use Units of Study in Reading and Writing to consider joining the cohort of schools that are piloting EL Education.
K-5 teachers from ALL schools are welcome to apply to be a part of the steering committee.

Accounts Payable wants to pay your invoices more timely!
Here it is, the "once a year approval form" , for vendors who have recurring payments such as Toshiba.
By completing the form and attaching it to the PO and sending us a copy, authorizes payment from the specified PO without having to receive, sign, return, every invoice to AP.
This will help us avoid District wide "Account Holds" pending a single signature approval.
Please help us help you!
Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns!

Family Engagement
Family Engagement Deliverables (click here)
What do we do with that data?
Our district LCAP requires us to capture progress towards ensuring all families are engaged with their child’s learning and with shared decision making. We take all of the data captured and provide a narrative and quantitative reports on how many schools are offering at least three opportunities for families to learn how to support learning at home.
Why 3 workshops?
At the time when we developed our first 3-year LCAP, back in 2015, many of our schools were not offering any opportunities while some schools were offering many. We thought a good starting place district-wide was 3 workshops MINIMUM, for schools that have not offered academic and direct parent-teacher engagement opportunities. This does not mean schools should only offer 3. 2 of these workshops should be direct parent-teacher engagements/opportunities lead by a school staff member/teacher, the 3rd workshop could be lead by Family Engagement LIaison.
Systemwide- our focus is on developing on-going structures at sites (workshops being one of those structures), for families to engage directly with their child’s teacher(s), to build direct partnership for student learning.
We are revising the metrics for family engagement, to give us more information on how our parents are experiencing partnerships for student learning and shared decision making."
