Norris News!
A weekly update from campus...
April 8, 2016
Can I just say how much I love my job? I tell you...I love it. In the hustle and bustle of the things that I must get accomplished each day, I try to never lose sight of my main goal. That goal is to foster an environment where primarily the students and also the faculty want to come to school, want to work hard, want to learn new concepts, and feel safe taking risks.
I am happy to report that we are hitting the mark at Norris! Below you will see a letter I received this week from one of our precious students. You know....she is right...Norris is the best. Amaira, thanks for the reminder, kiddo!
Have a great weekend,
Mrs. Abney

YUCK Game Show
The YUCK Game Show is coming to Norris on April 11!!!
The students will be divided into two teams and compete in curriculum-based science games, with the winning team’s captain getting the ultimate prize . . . slime!
Students demonstrate how differences in air pressure affect weather events like hurricanes and tornados, examine and identify gross objects using our digital microscope, practice measuring the volume of liquids using scientific equipment, learn about electrical charges and more in the games that lead up to the grand finale of the show, when the “winner” is covered in slime.

FIELD DAY is Approaching!
We are very excited to start planning our 1st Annual Norris Field Day on May 20th!
Many of you have asked how you can help with Field Day this year. We have many new and fun activities planned. We would like to have as many stations as possible and we are looking for a few items to make that happen!
If you are interested in donating an item, please refer to the Amazon link that is at the end of this section. Donating items is totally optional. If you choose to donate, please send the items to Coach Burleigh in the gym by May 1st.
In using the Amazon link at the end of this section, we will eliminate any duplicates of different items. It is also a great tool to keep track of what is donated and what else we will need. There are quantities listed on the site, so please refer to the list when you make your donation.
Thank you for your support! Please click on the link below if you would like to donate:

STUDENT AND PARENT EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM
Improve Communication and Relationships
There is Purpose and Power in the Struggle, Together!
Have you ever had a situation with your children that got tough and you just walked away and let it go because you thought it was the best thing to do? Was it? What about an issue or problem you discovered your children were having and you were afraid to bring it up? Is it a struggle just to communicate and have a relationship with your children? We know the struggle is real!
In this session, Patrice Dunn of Parenting With A Purpose will help FISD parents and students understand there is purpose and power in the struggle, together!
