Notes from Nurse Mary
Keeping Sugar Creek Students Healthy and Safe!
☺Remember to check in ALL medications to the clinic by an ADULT.
Medication is any substance that is used for treatment of a condition. This includes:
Cough drops and cough suckers
Inhalers
Eye drops
Is your child drinking enough water?
Children can quickly become dehydrated. Check these symptoms of possible dehydration to see if your child is drinking enough water:
Dizziness with standing
Headaches
Tiredness and decreased energy
Constipation
Feeling of “heart beating out of their chest”
It’s that time of year again with cold & flu season upon us. Let’s review some tips on how to stay as healthy as possible!
Wash your hands with soap or use hand sanitizer
Cover your sneeze and cough into your elbow
Get a flu vaccination
Don’t share foods and drinks
Try avoiding getting close to those who are sick
Please keep your student home until they:
Are fever-free for 24 hours without medication.
Have gone 24 hours without vomiting or diarrhea.
Free of continuous coughing.
Until it has been a full 24 hours since taking first dose of antibiotics for infection.
Tips for preventing head lice:
Avoid sharing hair brushes, combs, hair clips, etc.
Don’t share hats or jackets.
Be careful when taking “selfies” as this often involves pressing heads together.
Check your student periodically, especially if you see them scratching their head frequently.
When returning home from school - place jackets/coats and hats in dryer for at least 20 minutes.
When returning from sleepovers - wash bedding, clothing, and hair accessories and check head.
Regularly vacuum furniture, floors, and upholstery.
If you have any questions or need information on treatment or prevention, please contact the school nurse or your doctor.
