Student Assistance Program and Permission Slip
Silverdale Baptist Academy is now offering a Student Assistance Program (SAP) to all students. This is a voluntary program that provides various support services designed to meet your child’s social, emotional, and behavioral needs. It is a free service. There is no cost to you or your child.
Students can be referred to the counselors by parents/guardians, school personnel, or refer themselves (MS/HS only). The counselor team is comprised of Certified Student Assistance Professionals and licensed counselors. Our goal is to work with you in order to offer support and recommendations for your son or daughter. Additionally, our team can provide information so families may access community resources.
You are a vital part of your child’s success and we recognize the importance of parent/guardian involvement in this process. With your permission, your child can self-refer(MS/HS only) to the counseling team if they feel like they need to talk with someone about problems or issues they may be facing. If your child were to give us information that indicates he/she is at risk to harm themselves or others, then we would notify you immediately. By completing this form, you are giving us permission to speak with your child should the need arise.
Silverdale Baptist Academy is excited to offer such an invaluable service to you and your child. Thank you again for partnering with us.

CONTINUOUS ENROLLMENT NOTIFICATION
Your child is now conveniently re-enrolled each year without lifting a finger. Should anything change, all you need to do is schedule an appointment with your child’s principal and complete a withdrawal form before March 15th.
The $240 re-enrollment fee will be billed to your account annually on March 16th.
Tuition will automatically be billed via FACTS.

Thank you for entrusting your child's education to us. We consider it a privilege to be part of your family's life!

Girls STEM Day
Chattanooga State is hosting a Girls STEM day on Thursday, March 12, 2020 from 8:30 through lunch. This event is open to girls in grades 7 - 12 who might be considering a career in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math field. "As the needs are ever evolving, we will build the program around our middle and secondary partners and the need for these young ladies to be exposed to the STEM fields." The morning will include a guest speaker, break out sessions/hands on workshops/presentations, and concludes with lunch.
Please let Mrs. Heather Lam know if you are interested in attending this event before Thursday, January 30, 2020.
Upper School Science Fair
It is with excitement that we announce the opportunity for students to participate in an Upper School Science Fair!
The website below contains the parameters set forth by the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). We will follow these guidelines so that any High School project that qualifies is eligible to attend the regional fair for 9th-12th grades held at UTC in March 2020. UTC will announce the specific date for this regional fair later. Middle School submissions follow the same guidelines and prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place at SBA.
As we promote hands-on and project-based learning, students have endless options to research a topic of their choice and to share their findings with others. We also want to foster a love of science and to encourage our students to ask hard questions and explore the Creation around them.
Once you visit the website, you will see a list of categories and subcategories. Students are encouraged to find a topic of interest to them and begin as soon as possible! The science teachers are here to guide and answer questions, but not to assist with the completion of any project.
Categories and Subcategories for Science Fair projects
All Science Fair participants should be prepared to show their final project to the public Tuesday, March 3, 2020. We will have guest judges to assist in determining our winners!
All details will be communicated closer to mid-February as dates, locations, and participants are determined for both SBA presentation and UTC competition.
If you plan to participate, please complete the Google Form HERE.
If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Herron.

Does your student have a new medication he/she needs to take at school?
If so, please complete the Medication Authorization form found on the Parent Portal under Nurse's Corner and submit to the school nurse. A separate form is required for each medication. Each medication must be in the original pill bottle labeled by the pharmacist.
Can my student carry medication on him/her throughout the day?
Students are not allowed to keep any medications with them, backpack, or locker unless they have submitted written consent from parent/guardian and physician to school nurse and school nurse approves. A parent needs to transport the medication to the school nurse or designated personnel. Students should not carry in medication to hand to school nurse or designated personnel.
Does your child have a new medical diagnosis or a current medical diagnosis that has changed?
If so, please email the school nurse (awidener@silverdaleba.org) and complete a care plan under the Parent Portal under Nurse's Corner and submit to the school nurse. Students with medical conditions, including but not limited to anaphylaxis, asthma, cardiac conditions, diabetes, epilepsy, and other medical conditions, must have a completed care plan on file with the school nurse. Parents/Guardians should update the school nurse as needed with any changes in medical conditions.
When can my child return to school after an illness?
Your child must be fever-free (without a fever-reducing agent) for 24 hours as well as symptom-free (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, rash, etc.) before returning to school, or when the family physician notifies the school in writing that it is safe to do so.
How do I contact the school nurse?
