Lost & Found

We have a lot of jackets who need to be returned to their owners! Students are able to walk by the lost and found tables each day to find their coats and jackets. Parents can also come to the front office to look for their children's coats and jackets.

Read Across America Week

Help us celebrate Read Across America Week with our dress up to books days!

Other ways we will celebrate reading this week:

  • DVHS students who are members of DECA will be coming to Newton Collins Elementary on March 2nd to read with students.

  • This week, when students are “caught” reading outside of class, they can earn a Roo buck!

PE Update

This week in honor of Black History Month the following athletes were spotlighted: Serena Williams, Venus Williams, Jackie Robinson, Stephen Curry and Emmanuel Yeboah. We highlighted their accomplishments, struggles, and contributions to society.

In kindergarten through second grade students focused on body control by playing Builders and Bulldozers. They also ran an obstacle course to help them understand how to move over, under, around, and through objects. Students in third through fifth grade have begun their FitnessGram. We have measured their flexibility and running endurance. In the upcoming weeks we will measure their muscular endurance with the curl up and push up tests.

Music Update

In music class, we have been celebrating Black History Month by learning about some of the greats! We have talked about Louis Armstrong and his amazing trumpet playing skills. We've gotten to listen to Ella Fitzgerlad scatt her heart away, and also put our improvisation skills to the test by creating our own scatts and jazz band! It has been awesome getting to hear our kiddos talk about the importance of music and how it works to bring people together, as well as why it is important to treat people with kindness and respect. Our students have such big hearts and it has truly shown through their conversations and performances in class this month.
