WORD OF THE WEEK - "Compassion"
Compassion is a desire to help someone who is suffering.
PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
Bumpus Family,
We are committed to you as we continue with our "Engaged Learning at Home" Initiative. We hope that you were able to successfully navigate our Week at a Glance platform, access your assignments, and find a routine that worked for your family as the week progressed.
We were able to distribute nearly 60% of the locker contents during Operation: "You Can't Come Into The School" last week. Mr. Colosimo and his team did a phenomenal job organizing and implementing a plan while maintaining our social distancing requirements. Thank you for your cooperation. We will have additional pick-up times each Monday, 10:30 - 12:30, along with Chromebook repair drop-off and pick-up for the most critical issues, over the course of the next few weeks.
To make same day Q & A, as well as support possible, in the event you are unable to reach your classroom teacher, grade level counselor or grade level administrator, we have a dedicated email address that will be responded to by our Communication Team (bumpushelp@hoover.k12.al.us). While there will likely be someone on campus each M, T, and W to receive mail and deliveries, the building will not be open to the public. Most access to the building by students, parents and teachers will be by appointment only.
Additionally, because we want to maintain our connection to you during this time, please continue to use our BumpusPR@hoover.k12.al.us to share family and community news and at home learning photos. We love hearing from you and often use the information in our student eNews slides and on our social media platforms. If you haven't already, as a means of staying connected, check us out and share on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram.

"Engaged Learning at Home" Initiative Tips for Success
Each week and each day, throughout the day, review these tips for success.
Start each Monday morning by going to the Bumpus website to get your Academic team and your Electives/PE Week at a Glance.
Make sure to READ all directions and try first before immediately sending a message to a friend or email to a teacher.
Like you do in class, ask at least two buddies for clarification before asking the teacher.
Read/Watch each teacher’s directions very carefully, maybe twice. Most of your questions are probably answered there.
Each subject is broken up so you should spend around 30 minutes a day.
We would like you to work daily, so your assignments do not pile up. Reach out to your teachers if this is a problem for you and your family.
Take breaks between subjects.
Remember, iNow is your teacher's gradebook. They will be putting in grades as assignments are completed. When you see a .01, it means the assignment has not been turned in yet. Work to get them in so you can stay on track.
Continue to check emails, Google Classroom, and INOW at least once a day, if not more.

Why Taking Breaks Are Important
As school began again last Monday, it was probably great to get back to a somewhat normal school routine, but it may have also been a bit stressful. Taking breaks is an essential part of taking care of your mental and physical health. Even a five-minute break can decrease stress, restore motivation, increase productivity and creativity and can improve learning. Here are just a few ways to add a mental health break during or after your school day.
Begin a gratitude jar - every day write down one thing you are grateful for to fill the jar.
Be present and encourage your child to share their thoughts and talk through feelings.
Maintain your physical well being and take a break to cook a meal, exercise, and play.
Spend 2 - 3 minutes practicing deep breathing.
Encourage your child to maintain contact with their friends on an appropriate virtual platform.
Find an activity that encourages creativity: art, music, journaling, etc.
STRETCH
Play “Sound Search” - spend some time outside sitting still and identifying as many different sounds as possible.
Go “old school”, play cards, board games, dominoes or put together a puzzle.
If you have a medical emergency and need immediate assistance, please call 911 or go directly to the nearest emergency room. Here are other resources if needed:
