BIS Newsletter Week 7 Term 2
Friday 18th June 2021
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
On Thursday we had a visit from our local MP, Hon. Shanan Halbert who met with students in the library to talk about our Rainbow community and how the government is working with them to change some outdated policies. He was impressed with the maturity of our students and with how well they articulated their questions and shared their thoughts on the topic. I am always proud when visitors to our school get to spend time with our students and see for themselves what a great group of tamariki we have at BIS.
There is a lot happening in the next few weeks at school so please take note of the dates and events. Have a great weekend and we look forward to another quality week of education next Monday.
Ngā mihi nui,
JoAnne

Friends of the School
Earlier in the year, the school held a ‘Welcome’ evening and BBQ, and on that evening there was a call out for names of parents who might be interested in supporting the school with fundraising – you all indicated your interest to support.
This year our school set an ambitious fundraising target of $20,000. This target reflects the gap in funding we receive versus the education we wish to provide to our tamariki.
This coming Monday, some of our Board will be hosting a “fundraising planning evening’, where we are inviting you, as parents of the school to help us plan activities and events that we can carry out this year to achieve our fundraising goal. The meeting will be held in the school staffroom between 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm where we aim to brainstorm and schedule events and discuss how we might best work together to deliver these.
Key Details:
Date: Monday 21st June
Time: 6:30pm – 8:00pm
We are conscious childcare can be a challenge, so you are welcome to bring your children to the meeting or if you let us know ahead of time we will add a zoom link for those that can't make it in person.
For anyone that is interested in joining the discussion or help with events but cannot make the meeting, please contact Becs Reti to signal your interest at rreti@bis.school.nz

We are currently in talks with our uniform providers about the possibility of a softshell jacket. This would be black in colour and would not have a logo on it so could be worn for all events and beyond Intermediate.

Camp is an amazing experience for our students and gives them the chance to participate in a range of outdoor activities that are challenging. Students learn valuable life skills through managed risk taking while having lots of fun at the same time.
