BCIT WESTAMPTON

2020-21 CAMPUS REOPENING NEWSLETTER

WELCOME TO WESTECH

A message from your principal Mr. Venuto

Students and Families,

The opening of the 2020-21 school year is unprecedented as we navigate through this current crisis. Dependent on new information, we continue to refine our reopening plans to ensure students are able to return to a safe learning environment.

By now you should have received information regarding our hybrid schedule which includes:

  • an option form for remote learning
  • current student schedule and designated rotation
  • Chromebook distribution information for new students
  • changes to fall athletics

We realize the challenges ahead and rely on our instructional staff to teach students in-person and in a synchronous format for those working remotely. Teachers have been equipped with various instructional technology platforms to help them perform this task, and our expectation for rigorous coursework remains the same, expecting students to adhere to due dates and deadlines set forth by teachers.

Additionally, afternoon time has been set aside throughout the week for students to receive virtual assistance from teachers and counselors which includes social-emotional support and opportunities to participate in clubs/activities virtually. Information from staff members will be forthcoming once the school year gets underway and families may reach out to individual staff to schedule a time.

I hope you find the next few pages of this newsletter informative. My virtual door is always open, and I welcome the opportunity to discuss issues or to answer your questions. I look forward to our anticipated partnership and continued support from parents, as we work together to ensure the success of our students. This will certainly be a community effort, and we ask for your continued support at home during the remote learning experience.

Enjoy the remaining weeks of the summer, and we will see rotation day "B" students on September 8th.

TRANSPORTATION

The busing of students to and from BCIT is coordinated by the student's home sending district. You should be receiving information from your sending district about bus pick up and drop off times and locations, as well as safety protocol. Please contact them directly with any questions related to transportation.

STUDENT ENTRANCE DOORS

Students will be allowed into the building each day through the Student Entrance ONLY. Doors do not open until 7:50 am; please plan accordingly, as no one is permitted to enter the building prior to this time.

THERMAL CAMERA TEMPERATURE SCANS

Upon arrival, students will have their temperatures taken by a thermal camera system. Students with a temperature exceeding 100.4 will be brought to an isolation room, and families will be contacted to pick up their child immediately.

Once students' temperatures are scanned, they must practice proper social distancing and avoid congregating in large groups. Students can proceed only to the following areas: the atrium, cafeteria or auditorium. Students will not be allowed to congregate in the hallways prior to the homeroom bell. Administrators and staff will be present to monitor students and maintain safe practices.

DAILY STUDENT SCREENING FORM

The Student Screening Form must be submitted any day your student is required to be in the building. In short, this form is not used when students are working remotely. Prior to the first day, the form will be made available in Genesis.
