PE Flex:
World Language:
Honors Courses / Teacher Recommendations:
- Should I include my planned summer class(es) on my scheduling card? NO-If you are planning to take a required course through the Summer Learning Program (SLP) this summer, please just make note of this on your scheduling card near the course it applies to so we are aware of your plans. We don't want to think you made a mistake of not scheduling for a course .
- What required SLP classes are offered for incoming freshmen? World History, Physical Science, Health, PE
Credit by Exam:
- How do I register and sign up for a Credit by Exam? You will need complete the Credit by Exam application to sit for an exam in the spring. Applications are available in the counseling office and online. Here is the link to the credit by exam information: https://www.rochester.k12.mi.us/academics/assessment/credit-by-exam
- I'm planning to take Credit by Exam, how do I note that on the scheduling card? If you are planning to take a Credit by Exam this spring, please note this on your scheduling card. Make a note of the class you would like us to replace it with if you do earn credit for the course. (i.e. "planning to test out of geometry, would like to take Honors Algebra 2 if I pass the exam") If you are trying to acquire credit for a required 9th grade course, you will still want to schedule for the required 9th grade course and we will make the change if needed after the Credit by Exam results are provided.
Marching/Jazz Band:
- How do I enter my Marching Band or Jazz Band selections? These classes are additional courses outside of the six hour school day. They are not included in the 12 semesters. You will not be able to enter these courses in StudentVue, so please make sure you clearly mark the box if you are planning to take either of these courses so we can be sure to manually add it in for you.
PE Flex:
- Will my out-of-school sports count for PE credit? No -Students may only flex their PE requirement with 2 seasons of an MHSAA school sport or Marching Band. There are no exceptions to this. No outside sports or activities we will be approved.
World Language:
- Should I continue my world language in high school? Yes, it is strongly recommended for students who are successful in their world language in middle school to continue on in high school. There are some competitive colleges that will strongly recommend students complete four years. So if you're not sure of all your options after high school and you are successful in your current world language it is advised you continue. It is also advised to consult with your teacher, counselor, and your potential college websites to support an informed decision .
Honors Courses / Teacher Recommendations:
- How do I know if a honors course is right for my student? Typically, students selecting honors math and honors English are receiving "A" grades on not only homework, but also tests and quizzes in their current courses. It is highly suggested that students consult with their middle school teachers and counselor to determine class placement. Honors classes are self-select, and not droppable during the school year.
- Why are teacher recommendations part of the scheduling process for honors and next-level world language classes? We strongly recommend you consider your teachers' recommendations for placement in honors or sequence classes. They use data and experience to make useful and informative recommendations on behalf of student's success. Current middle school teachers will be signing scheduling cards for those students that they believe are appropriate for a class selection. It is; however, a family decision for any selection.
