Congratulations to YOUR 2016-2017 Student Council!
I am very proud of our Student Council and look forward to working with each of them in making our school GREAT!
Blessing of Our Books
See You At Family Mass - 9/18-10:30 a.m. - Grade 8
Please remember that attendance at this Mass is required. God has given us 168 hours of life for the week and so so many blessings; we can certainly give Him 1 hour. Thank you, Mrs. Johnson's Class.
Great News! Great News! And More Great News!
Congratulations to Ms. Emily Yovich, grade 6 homeroom teacher (science/math) who received an ESP grant from the National Education Energy Development Project (NEED).
The mission of the National Energy Education Development Project is to promote an energy conscious and educated society by creating effective networks of students, educators, business, government and community leaders to design and deliver objective, multi-sided energy education programs. NEED works with energy companies, agencies and organizations to bring balanced energy programs to the nation's schools with a focus on strong teacher professional development, timely and balanced curriculum materials, signature program capabilities and turn-key program management.
Our 7th/8th graders will participate in an Energy Fair. Their energy-focused projects will be on display for Catholic Schools' Week on Sunday, January 29th.Grades 5 and 6 will also display their science fair projects (ranging in topics) on the same day.
As always, students who achieve a high score in a project will be invited to represent St. Ann at the Regional Science Fair in the Spring. Students can then progress to Area and State Fairs as well.
NEW! Later in the year, in early April, Ms. Yovich with the assistance of Ms. Roskos, will host an Energy Carnival during the evening in the school hall. Games and fun events will be held. Stay tuned for more information.
Congratulations to Mrs. Marie Hess, who is the recipient of a $3,000 grant from Reflexmath. Reflexmath specializes in math fact fluency; this assists students of all ability levels to develop fluency with their basic facts in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. As you are well aware, mastery in mathematical computations begins with a foundation in basic facts. Research has shown that quick recall of math facts is critical for future success in mathematics. Mrs. Hess is our enrichment, art, and physical education teacher. She is planning to utilize the program to compliment our current math program as an enrichment activity with our first graders immediately.
We also wish to congratulate Mrs. Kelly Baxter, our new pre-kindergarten teacher. She was selected by the University of Chicago to participate in their research study of a new system targeted toward early childhood math instruction and assessment called “Getting on Track Early for School Success.” The goal of the project is to increase math learning in the early childhood years, ensuring that every child is on track for future academic success. The teacher is also able to use data collected to tailor instruction to each of her pre-kindergarten student’s needs. Mrs. Baxter will receive professional growth from the University of Chicago in this academic area along with a classroom supply mini-grant.
