As Halloween fast approaches, I am writing to share how LMS students will participate in this exciting time in a way that is safe and respectful. Please review the following carefully with your child. If you have any questions, please feel free to let me know.
Students will be permitted to wear costumes to school on Monday, October 31 as long as they adhere to the following guidelines:
Guidelines for Costumes
1) Costumes must not interfere with the normal activities of the day nor can costumes interfere with their learning or the learning of others (i.e., inflatable costumes);
2) Application of any makeup must occur at home;
3) Students must be identifiable. Masks are NOT permitted nor can students’ identities be disguised;
4) Costumes must be appropriate for ALL students and must comply with our Attire Guidelines;
5) No weapons of any sort, no blood, no revealing clothing;
6) Shoes must be worn at all times;
7) Props must not represent dangerous items (i.e., knives, guns, etc.) and must not be a distraction to others.
It is our intent to provide students with a memorable, fun experience. Please remind your child that all behavior must be appropriate and consistent with our behavior expectations. Although all students are invited to wear costumes, it is not required; costumes are optional.
If any student fails to follow these regulations, parents will be notified.

Dress Attire Reminder/Recordatorio de Vestimenta
Students are not allowed to wear slides on campus due to safety reasons. Unfortunately we had a recent injury as a result of a student not wearing proper footwear on campus. If your student wears slides to school, we will have to keep them in the office until you are able to bring proper shoes to school. Repeated offenses will result in additional consequences. Students are allowed to wear crocs as long as the back strap is on and they are not on the field or basketball courts.

Reminders
From the LMS Health Office/De la Oficina de Salud de Lincoln
Option 1:
Flu season is upon us, and many experts predict that the 2022-23 season may be worse than usual.
While seasonal influenza (flu) viruses are detected year-round in the United States, flu viruses typically circulate during the fall and winter. The exact timing and duration of flu seasons varies, but flu activity often begins to increase in October. Most of the time flu activity peaks between December and February, although significant activity can last as late as May. Since the start of the COVID pandemic, the timing and duration of flu activity has been less predictable.
Please keep in mind that it’s safe to receive a flu shot at the same time you receive a Covid-19 booster.
Option 2:
Reminder – it’s time to get your flu shot. It’s as important as ever to slow the spread of illnesses like flu. Get vaccinated to stay protected throughout flu season. Did you know you can get a flu shot and a Covid-19 vaccine at the same time?
Students with Symptoms of Illness
Students who are not feeling well/symptomatic must stay home and isolate until they have obtained a COVID-19 test result. Symptoms may include fatigue, nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, runny nose/congestion, sore throat, headache, fever/chills, muscle/body aches, new cough, shortness of breath, new loss of taste/smell, or any other new symptoms.
If the student has a negative COVID test they must meet the following criteria to return to school:
Stomach ache, nausea, headache, poor appetite, and fatigue must be resolved before returning to school
Cough, runny nose/congestion, and sore throat must be improved before returning to school
Body aches/chills, fever, vomiting, or diarrhea must be resolved for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications before returning to school. (e.g., a student develops a fever at 10 am on Monday, fever resolves at noon the same day, the COVID test is negative- student may return to school Wednesday morning).
Please alert the school site attendance clerk if your child will be absent.
