PK 4.3 - Weekly Newsletter
Dear families,
This week we started our WHEELS STUDY!
Humans are fascinated by wheels! Wheels give us mobility and a sense of power! They are everywhere, not just on vehicles. The internal workings of many machines depend on wheels. It is safe to say that, without wheels; life as we know it would come to a halt!
We can use your help to get our study moving! We are collecting wheeled objects to explore and pictures of as many different kinds of wheels as possible.
Here is a partial list of wheels and wheeled objects, but please do not be limited by it:
cars, trucks, carts, wagons, unicycles, bicycles, skateboards, roller or in-line skates, wheelbarrows, tractors, trailers, buses, taxis, trains, airplanes, carriages, strollers, scooters, “big wheels”, dollies, hand carts, shopping carts, wheelchairs, four-wheelers (ATVs), steering wheels, captain’s wheels, color wheel, training wheels, rolling pins, pizza wheels, abdominal wheels, waterwheels, potter’s wheels, propellers, cogged wheels, gears, wheels of fortune, spinning wheels, pulleys; you name it!
As we study Wheels, we will learn concepts in science, social studies and technology. We will also use skills in literacy, math and the arts. We’ll also be developing thinking skills as we observe, investigate, make connections, ask questions, solve problems, organize information and draw conclusions.
What you can do at home?
Talk with your child about wheels. Look for wheels in unexpected places. Try to figure out how they work. Help your child imagine what life would be like without wheels. As you read books with your child, notice and talk about wheels in the illustrations. The next time you have a flat tire, let your child help remove the wheel and put on the spare.
This promises to be a very active and fun study to enjoy before the end of the 1st semester!!!
