Olivia: A Writer
The Story of a Hoplessly Eager Writer
I'm a Writer Who . . .
I am a very enthusiastic writer! I love to write whenever and wherever I can! Creating my blog last year was very exciting, because I could share my work with whoever wanted to read it! I am almost always willing to share. Of course, sometimes I hit a wall, and my writing sounds very forced and choppy. Then is a time I'd be less willing to share. I love to write short entries, but I have commitment issues when it comes to a novel. When I'm writing short things, however, I tend to make them longer than they should be. I don't know why I do it, but my personal narratives always turn out to be three and a half pages long.
Inspiration
I'm not sure exactly where I get my inspiration from. A lot of times it's my personal life experiences, or others' experiences that I witness. I find myself thinking as if my whole life is a novel; wording each sentence perfectly, like someone's going to read it. A lot of my stories start this way. Another way I find inspiration is through characters. Sometimes I think up an interesting character, and I decide they NEED a story to call home.
Genre
My favorite story genre is realistic fiction, hands down. I can make the stories as bizarre or as ordinary as I want! Also, it's a lot easier (and more fun) to write about things that I (or my peers) can relate to. The characters seem more realistic when I can incorporate my emotions. I also love poetry! I can write serious poetry or silly poetry! It just depends on my mood. A genre I do not like, however, is Sci Fi. I don't exactly enjoy Sci Fi stories, so it seems right that I don't like writing them either.
Process
When it comes to writing, I'm really more of the go-with-the-flow type. I find it when I come up with a structured storyline before I start, my transitions seem very choppy. A loose, mental storyline is good for me, but I tend to change my mind a lot, so my story always ends up changing.
When I'm editing and revising written/printed work, I love it! I feel so awesome making notes and writing symbols with my bright pink pen. I don't enjoy it quite as much when it's digital. I still do it, sure. I LOVE my thesaurus! It takes me ages to revise enough that I'm ready to call my piece done, but that's all the fun!

A Memorable Experience
Second grade was the time I had started to consider myself a writer. We were writing folk tales. Of course, I was being my slow self, and didn't end up finishing writing my final draft, so I read the story out of my writers notebook. It was about an elephant who was on a quest. I don't remember why, but I do remember there was an owl involved. I thought my story was incredible. At the time, I thought I was a marvelous, accomplished writer. To me, this story holds a lot of personal value. I've been an enthusiastic writer ever since.
Sixth Grade Goals
- I'd like to try out different genres this year. I'm getting a little bored of staying in my comfort zone.
- I want to write a story/entry using previous ideas. I don't want to waste them!
- I want to try to write a mystery. It seems like it would be fun having so much suspense in a story...
About Me
My name is Olivia Lee Graner. I have an eight year old brother named John (at Schneck), a twelve year old dog named Bella (with severe separation anxiety), a four year old goldfish named Mango (Yes. He's very old). I'm a theater geek - this past winter I was in the production of Madeline's Christmas with the Atlanta Children's Theater. And I've been in many other plays, as well. I love to sing! I sing anything, anytime, anywhere. I am me, and I don't want to be anyone else! "Those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind" -Doctor Seuss
