First Day of School

The D11 School Board voted last year to extend the elementary school day by 30 minutes! We are excited to get to spend that additional time with our children working on instruction and learning!!

  • School starts promptly at 7:50am.
  • BV staff will be outside starting at 7:35am to provide morning supervision to students in 1st through 5th grades.
  • Preschool and Kindergarten students will be signed in by their parent/guardian, as usual.
  • The first bell will ring at 7:45 allowing students to enter the building.
  • If your child arrives at school after 7:50am, a parent or guardian is required to sign the student in with the front office. Please enter the school through the main doors and a secretary will be there to assist you.
  • If your child arrives at school after 8:10, they will be considered absent for the morning, but present for the afternoon.
  • MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO GET YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL ON TIME EVERY DAY.

  • The school day ends at 2:50pm.
  • BV staff will be outside until 3:00pm to provide afternoon supervision to students in 1st through 5th grades.
  • Preschool and Kindergarten students will be signed out by their parent/guardian, as usual.
  • Students remaining on the school grounds, without a parent or guardian, after 3:00 will be escorted to the office to await pick up.

New preschoolers, please check your email for details from Ms. Alison about your first day.

Bus Transportation

For the 2022-2023 school year, transportation is available for kindergarten through fifth grade students enrolled in the program living within the boundary of District 11 and west of Union Boulevard, until it reaches the Circle Dr. & Fillmore St. intersection of Union Blvd, and then west of Circle Dr. south of that intersection.

To apply for your child to ride the bus to and from school, please follow this link: https://www.d11.org/Page/17320 . After you've completed the application, please email Ms. Karen B. (karen.bleibaum@d11.org) so she may follow up.

Food and Nutrition

Why aren't school meals free this year?

  • Over the last two years, the federal government has provided schools with waivers providing meals at no cost to students.
  • Those waivers will expire after the 2021-22 school year.
  • Because Congress did not include an extension of the waivers, District 11 will resume our traditional practice of charging for meals in the 2022-23 school year.
  • This is a standard, normal procedure that keeps school districts in compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • District 11 Food and Nutrition Services is a self-funded enterprise within the school district and has to cover the costs of operating a school nutrition program.

Meal prices beginning August 1, 2022

  • Elementary:
    • Breakfast $1.80
    • Lunch $2.95
  • Adult:
    • Breakfast $2.55
    • Lunch $4.25

Do I need to submit a free and reduced-price meal application for next school year?

I don't qualify for free or reduced-price meals. Do I need to do anything?

  • If you do not believe that you qualify for free or reduced-price meals, please make sure that there is money in your students account. You can add money to their account at myschoolbucks.com.
