TROJAN Update

February 26th, 2018

Here Comes March!

Amazingly, it's almost March and we are more than 2/3 the way through the school year. This is a great time to remind your children to keep their focus and not get behind with their assignments.

A few quick reminders:

  • Please turn in signed AP/Honors agreements by March 9th to the counseling office (see article below)
  • If you are taking an AP exam this May, be sure your student has submitted payment. AP forms were given directly to students so please check with him or her. These are also due by March 9th.
  • Athletic Boosters Meeting Monday night in the library.
  • Don't forget Spring Break, coming up from March 19-23rd.

Have a great week!

Career Days March 5th and 6th!

This is a reminder that on Monday, March 5th and Tuesday, March 6th, we are having Career Day all day in the library. All sophomores will be attending via their World History classes. The program includes talks by graduates of Petaluma High who have gone on to successful careers in various fields, including Events/Media, Construction/Electrical, Real Estate, Wealth Management, Financial Services, Vineyards/Winery, Recruiting, Broadcasting and Psychology/Crisis.

These talks are a great way for our current students to imagine their futures as well as some how-to's and roadmaps to careers. Thank you to our remarkable counselors for putting this event together.

AP Honors Evening a Smashing Success!

Thank you to those of you who turned out for our AP Honors Evening. It was great to see so many of you moving through the halls and listening to teachers describe their program. Parent presence at school makes a big difference for students as you confirm for them the importance of their work at school.

I also want to recognize our terrific student panel who spoke about their experiences taking AP and honors classes. So proud of all of them! And thank you to our staff for their presentations!

Remember that the signed agreements are due back to the counseling office by March 9th. These are important as we build the master schedule based on these agreements. Please email Mr. Stirrat (dstirrat@petk12.org) with any specific questions.

PHS Wrestlers Represent at NCS Meet; Pedersen Just Misses State Berth

The PHS Wrestlers had an excellent showing at the state meet, placing 18th out of 88 schools.

The highlight of the tournament for Petaluma was having Connor Pedersen end up in 4th place. He ended up losing a close match in overtime, almost qualifying for the State Meet.

The team had a good showing as a whole. With the majority of the team returning next year, Petaluma High plans on placing higher next year and sending some wrestlers to the state meet.

Well done, everyone, and to Coach Schloesser, Coach Butts and everyone who supports PHS Wrestling!

Junior State of America (JSA) at Winter Congress in Sacramento

More than 20 Petaluma High students journeyed to the state capitol this weekend to attend the JSA Winter Congress. The purpose of JSA is to help high school students acquire leadership skills and the knowledge necessary to be effective debaters and civic participants. It's an excellent way to find our students to find their voice on critical issues.

Boys Tennis is On the Court!

The varsity boys tennis team has opened up the season in fine fashion. Led by Nathan Wong and Connor Gors, this group is currently 1-1 on the season, dropping its first match 6-1 at defending NBL champs Maria Carrillo, before defeating crosstown rival Casa Grande 4-3 last week. The team has a couple more non league contests before opening league play at Analy in early March. Watch out for these guys - they could go far!
