PTA MESSAGE
Hoping you and yours are healthy and managing this uncertainty ok.
School news is definitely different than what we typically share and is changing rapidly, but we'll continue to send what we know via this newsletter and Facebook (@arletak8).
Our upcoming dine-outs at Fried Egg I'm in Love, Por Que No, Off the Griddle and Char are postponed for now. We hope that you'll continue to support our local restaurants and businesses as safety allows. We are also postponing the Spring Thing...maybe a Fall Fling? More details to come!
We look forward to seeing you back at school soon! Thank you for supporting the Arleta PTA!

LEARNING RESOURCES TO COMBAT CORONA BOREDOM
Use the resources below to access online books and educational games. I recommend giving your students at least 30 minutes each day of reading, and another 30 minutes doing something educational. Try BBC Typing for K-3 and Typing.com for 4th-8th grade. Also, Free Rice is a wonderful trivia resource that supports the World Food Programme that has core subjects and more available to choose from.
Above all, stay well and use this time to recharge your batteries. I look forward to seeing you all again soon,
Sincerely,

WONDERING HOW YOU CAN HELP, OR ACCESS RESOURCES?
Support Community & Stay Involved
In a time of crisis, we can respond to the needs of our community with collective power and mutual aid. Please make a donation today to support the efforts of PDX COVID-19 Mutual Aid Network.
PDX COVID-19 Mutual Aid Network is an all-volunteer grassroots group operating in the territories of the many tribes who have made their homes near the confluence of the Willamette and Columbia Rivers, including Multnomah, Wasco, Cowlitz, Kathlamet, Clackamas, Bands of Chinook, Tualatin, Kalapuya, and Molalla.
The funds raised here will be used to respond to requests for support from the community, received via the request form that went live on March 13, 2020. This will include buying food and supplies for those in need, as well as reimbursing volunteers for transportation and other related costs.
Requests are prioritized for those who are sick, unhoused, disabled, quarantined without pay, elderly, undocumented, trans and queer, Black, Indigenous, People of Color, including immigrants, refugees, and those who have been displaced from Portland to nearby areas.

tinyurl.com/mercadotriviaremains
Portland Mercado remains open for take-out and delivery! On-site dining is closed. Many vendors remain open with ordering options. Portland Mercado is a community of more than 16 permanent businesses with many more in the incubator kitchen - bringing together diverse cultures through food, art, and entertainment.
Portland United Against Hate
Have you witnessed hate related to COVID-19? Viruses do not discriminate but misinformation is leading to decreased patronage for small businesses operated by Asian Americans and increased racist comments from a false association between these communities and respiratory infections. With any public health issue, the most important thing to do is follow the advice of trusted public health authorities and let facts - not fear or anxiety - inform our decisions. We are in this together and will make it through by supporting one another and uniting against any form of discrimination. Together we can make Portland safer and support each other!
If you or someone else experiences bullying, bias, and hate please report it to www.ReportHatePDX.com.
RUN FOR THE ARTS
With so much up in the air, we're not sure our tradition Run for the Arts event will happen before the end of the school year. However we are trying to organize a virtual run to coincide with a virtual Spirit Week.
This would mean students can still collect pledges, and with the help of parents, set up their own 1/4 mile course to run/walk for 30 minutes and count laps. This would be a great way to keep kids active and support arts at Arleta (while keeping to distancing guidelines)!
We'll send information out soon via facebook and email/newsletter if a virtual run is scheduled.

Please consider adding an item or two when you do your regular Amazon shopping. And when you use Amazon Smile and link your Amazon account to Arleta School PTA, Amazon will also donate 0.5% of your total purchase (at no additional cost to you)! NO COST WAYS TO SUPPORT ARLETA
The Arleta PTA participates in THREE no-cost shopping rewards programs - Fred Meyer Community Rewards, AmazonSmile and Bottle Drop.
1. By linking your Fred Meyer Rewards card to the Arleta PTA and scanning your rewards card when you shop, a percentage of your purchase goes to the PTA. Sign up here. (And you'll still get your cash back rewards!)
2. Amazon has a similar program, called AmazonSmile. Select "Arleta School PTA" as your charitable organization to receive donations when you shop Amazon. Once you sign up, just go to smile.amazon.com to do your usual Amazon shopping. While there is no app, you can create a shortcut on your phone by going to smile.amazon.com in your browser, tap the Share button, then tap Add to Homescreen.
3. Donate your redeemable cans and bottles to Arleta through Bottle Drop. Grab a blue bag from the school office and FILL it up then take it to a Bottle Drop site, OR email arletabottledrop@gmail.com and someone will come pick it up. (Arleta pays a fee for the bags, so let's fill them to the top!)
