Tokyo Tower

Tokyo Tower - located in Japan's capital of Tokyo is the Tokyo Tower. The Tokyo Tower is evidence of the advancement of technology and modern life. It was inspired by the Eiffel Tower's design and is the second tallest man made structure in Japan. Visitors can climb the tower and see all the different views of Tokyo.

Mount Fuji

Mount Fuji - Mount Fuji is the highest mountain in Japan. The volcano is a well known symbol of Japan. An estimated 200,000 people climb it every year and 30% are foreigners.

3 Important Historical Events

December 7th, 1941 - Japan launches a surprise attack on the US Pacific fleet at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Twelve ships are sunk and nine are damaged. About 2,500 people are killed. The US and its main allies declare war on Japan the following day.



1951 - Japan signs peace treaty with the US and other nations. To this day, there is no peace treaty with Russia, as the legal successor to the Soviet Union.



1995 January - An earthquake hits central Japan, killing thousands and causing widespread damage. The city of Kobe is hardest hit.

Current Event

A current event in Japan is the South Korean government has cancelled a bidding for a construction project on the Sea of Japan. They cancelled it due to a heated territorial dispute between Tokyo and Seoul.

Japan's economy is relatively successful. They have a very technologically advanced economy. Compared to the rest of the world their economy is ranked pretty high.
