Falco Newsletter April 5th - 9th
2021 Newsletter for Five Oaks and Rachel Carson MS
A LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Happy April Falcon Families!
I hope you all had a great Spring Break and time to enjoy the sunshine! This newsletter will be full of information about hybrid, upcoming events, and some helpful links.
Before we get too far into information about hybrid, I wanted to give a big shout out to Noura Al-Qara, one of our incredible Five Oaks 7th grade students! She had a piece of art published in the Winter edition of PCC Magazine. Her piece is on page 25, check it out here. We are so proud of you Noura! Keep up the great work!
Thursday April 8 beginning at 6 pm, we have two QPR sessions. QPR stands for Question, Persuade, Refer, and is a tool parents can use to talk to their students about suicide and depression. We understand this can be an uncomfortable topic, but it is great information to have if you ever need it. We are running two sessions concurrently:
English session: https://beavertonk12.zoom.us/j/85655023632?pwd=ZHBKSFBhMDBpOW1TVzVMRTRiNHIwQT09
Spanish session: https://beavertonk12.zoom.us/j/89291404089?pwd=NTNhTVlQQ3hVUDUrNTZzR3c0Nk1HQT09
Virtual Outdoor School starts next week for some of our students and continues the following week for others! Please connect with your students teachers, and have your student check Canvas for the schedule and links. We are so excited to get to participate in Outdoor School, even if it’s virtual this year. If you have a 6th or 7th grade student who hasn’t picked up their Outdoor School supplies yet, please do so ASAP!
March 19, emails went to families who had opted to send their students back for hybrid learning indicating what attendance group your student is in.
Attendance group 1 means students will attend in person Monday and Thursday starting April 19.
Attendance group 2 means students will attend in person Tuesday and Friday starting April 20.
All other days students will be in CDL.
Wednesdays will be mostly asynchronous except for Advisory which will meet at it’s usual time via zoom.
Families whose students will be riding the bus should receive information from transportation, however, you can also go to the district website (follow the link below) to find the most updated transportation information.
https://www.beaverton.k12.or.us/departments/transportation/bus-routes
You will need your student’s id number and birthday.
If you have multiple students, it should give you an option to see routes for all of your students after logging in.
For all students and families:
The daily schedule is going to look different. It’s very important to look at start and end times for classes.
Lunch will no longer be from 11-12 every day starting April 19.
Teachers will be teaching to both in person and CDL students at the same time, so patience, especially in the beginning of this transition will be key!
All students will be CDL students a minimum of 3 days a week (including Wednesday).
For CDL students:
Logging on to your class at the start time will be very important.
It will be a good idea to remind yourself where the “raise hand” function and other reaction buttons are and practice using them before April 19.
We are committed to ensuring you have access to the activities students who are in person have access to. It will be important to keep up on messages from teachers about items that may need to be picked up.
You will still be able to request and pick up books from the library.
Meals will be available for pick up on Wednesdays only starting the week of April 19. You’ll get an entire week’s worth at a time.
For Hybrid students:
Masks will be required all the time. The only exception is for eating or drinking.
There will be no eating in classrooms, but you can have a water bottle at your desk (we can provide one if needed).
Drinking fountains won’t be available, but we do have filtered water bottle filling stations for students to use.
Restrooms are assigned by grade level. Rachel Carson students will access the 6th grade restrooms. Only one person per room will be out at a time.
Students will stay in their room and teachers will move to students except for Band, Drama, PE and a few sections of Encore.
Please bring your chromebook already charged and bring your charger with you just in case.
You will have a container provided to keep things in at school. You can also bring a backpack. The backpack will have to stay by you in class as we won’t be using lockers.
Lunch will be provided for free to all students. If you choose to bring a lunch from home please remember that reusable containers and lunch boxes are your responsibility to keep track of at all times.
There will be outside time at lunch. We will have designated areas and equipment for students. This will be sanitized in between lunches and students will have to sanitize their hands before going back inside.
Teachers will have access to outside areas during the day to allow students to get fresh air and stretch their legs.
There is so much to absorb with hybrid and the changes coming our way. Each session will include time for a presentation followed by a Q/A. We have scheduled a parent information session and two student sessions as follows:
Student sessions will be from 11-12 on Monday April 12 and Thursday April 15.
The parent information session will be Tuesday April 13 at 6:00 via zoom: https://beavertonk12.zoom.us/j/83196568379?pwd=VExWNGRudUZIVEtZMktNZVZuSlNaUT09

https://www.beaverton.k12.or.us/departments/transportation/bus-routes
