JANUARY 1ST COLLEGE DEADLINES
Anyone with a January 1st deadline should have invited their counselor and teacher recommenders already. If you have not, you MUST DO SO BY 12/15. Cover ("Green Sheets") should be submitted no later than 12/15 as well. If your school is asking for test scores you must send them YOURSELF immediately, it can take 2 weeks for scores to reach a college from SAT/ACT. Remember we are not in school from 12/24 - 1/4. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE FOR COLLEGE APPS.
DUAL ENROLLMENT
For the Spring semester, the following classes are eligible for Dual Enrollment credit at OCC: AP English Language, AP English Lit, Pre Calc Honors, Statistics AP and Honors, Web Page Design and AP Computer Science. (Some classes require pre-req, check with your counselor).

Pre - Calc requires the Algebra Advanced Functions Test. The deadline to take and pass the test Jan. 15. It may be a good idea to take the test over winter break. Once you submit your registration form, OCC will contact you with information on taking the test.
SAT/ACT
On the evening of December 15, Solution Prep will be offering a virtual SAT/ACT information session to 10th and 11th grade students from Toms River Schools. Please see the information flyer attached for more information and to register. Students need to register prior to the presentation.
FAFSA HELP
Ocean County College is offering a FREE FAFSA Workshop. Students DO NOT have to be planning to attend OCC to take advantage of these sessions. Workshop date is Dec 15 from 5 to 7 PM. You must RSVP for the session at : https://kiosk.na1.qless.com/kiosk/app/home/100100000007
PSAT SCORES
10th and 11th graders who took the PSAT in October will be able to view their scores online through their college board accounts beginning on December 7th. Please see the following link for more info:
VOCATIONAL SCHOOL
On December 14, the vocational school will be visiting with all 10th grade Gym classes. They will present information about their shared time programs. Most of the shared time programs are 2 year programs and students are eligible for them beginning in 11th grade. No sign up is necessary for the information session, students will get the presentation during their 10th grade gym class during the school day.

ACCUPLACER
Reminder: On Friday, December 17, OCC will be coming to give interested seniors the Accuplacer test. The accuplacer test can be used to meet the NJ state testing requirement for graduation and serves as a placement test for OCC. Two Upcoming Teen Library Programs
Monday, December 13th - Behind the Cover: Book Cover Illustration with Stephanie Singleton
Time: 6:30PM
Location: Zoom
Description: Stephanie Singleton is a brilliant artist who has worked with publishers such as HarperCollins, Penguin Random House, Simon & Schuster, and more. Her designs have graced the covers of books by Justin A. Reynolds, Brandy Colbert and Jacqueline Woodson, to name a few. Learn about her experience as an illustrator, how she got involved in book covers and her advice for aspiring artists.

Wednesday, December 15th - So You Want to Be A Musician

Description: Do you have a passion for music and composition? Are you wondering how you might turn this into a career? Join us as Educator and Composer, Brian Betz shares his experience and what it takes to thrive in the career.
Brian Betz is a guitarist, composer and educator. Mr. Betz holds two degrees from Rowan University (BM, MM) and is endorsed by GHS guitar strings. Mr. Betz is a past winner of the Betty Carter International Jazz Competition, has played at the Kennedy Center and the Cape May Jazz Festival, and is on the faculty at Monmouth and Rowan universities. In 2018, he was awarded by the NJEA and FOX 29 as one of the ten "Top Teachers" of New Jersey.
