Budget Update & Furlough Dates

Last night, our Board of Directors received an update from District staff on the proposed reduction plan to address the District’s current budget deficit. This presentation included information about reductions to staff positions and discretionary spending, as well as proposed furlough dates. For a video of that presentation and other updates on the current year budget situation, please visit our website here.

Following the District’s presentation, the Board voted to adopt the following three staff furlough dates:

  • March 24, 2023 (Friday before Spring Break)

  • June 15-16, 2023 (End of school year)

Approval of these dates also includes the following adjustments to the 2022-23 academic calendar:

  • Trimester 2 last day will change from Thursday, March 16 to Friday, March 10

  • Staff work day will change from Friday, March 17 to Monday, March 13

  • Last day of school for K-11 students will move from Thursday, June 15 to Tuesday, June 13

  • Staff work day will change from Friday, June 16 to Wednesday, June 14

  • Spring conferences will be canceled. Conference dates at elementary (May 11-12) and at middle school (April 14) will become full school days.

  • In the event that we have inclement weather school closures this year, we may use identified furlough dates as our weather “make up” days.

For the full 2022-23 academic calendar reflecting these adjustments, please see the link below.

Great Body Shop - Health Instruction

Please be on the lookout for communication from your teachers about online access to The Great Body Shop, our Health Instructional materials. Teachers will be sharing access to the Family Portal and instructions on creating an account. This Portal will allow you to view the Student Issues that accompany each unit in Health, as well as the complete lesson plans for all Opt-Out Optional lessons and activities. In order to know which lessons to look for, you can refer to the opt-out forms sent at the beginning of health instruction each unit. Please note that ALL Opt-Out Optional lessons are available online, including ones that will not be addressed until later in the year. Thank you for your continued support!

Sherwood Early Learning

Hello Sherwood Community,

We still have a limited number of spots available in our Preschool Programs here at the Sherwood School District. Our inclusive Pre-Kindergarten programs have the goal of offering high-quality early learning education that promotes social-emotional learning and academic skills students need to be successful in school and beyond. Our current programs are inclusive, providing rich early learning opportunities for typically developing children and children with developmental delays and disabilities. This is a tuition-based program, with financial assistance available for families who qualify.

To learn more you can check us out at https://sherwood.k12.or.us/departments/teaching-and-learning/early-learning-information/

Update from the Health Services Department

Oregon is experiencing high levels of respiratory viruses -- especially in children -- which include RSV, influenza, colds and COVID-19. In addition, schools in our district have seen an increase in absences recently, with a significant number of families reporting student illness as the cause for those absences.

Respiratory viruses can spread rapidly, so it is important for students who are sick to stay home when they have the following symptoms:

  • Fever of 100.4 or greater

  • New or worsening cough

  • Vomiting and diarrhea

  • Headache with stiff neck or fever

  • New instance of difficulty breathing which is not due to a medical condition (ie; asthma)

If you have questions about when your child can return to school after an illness, please contact our office or call Health Services at 503-825-5088 for assistance.

In addition to staying home when ill, ways to combat the spread of respiratory viruses include frequent hand washing/sanitizing, disinfecting of frequently touched surfaces, covering coughs and sneezes (using tissue or the inside of your elbow), and avoiding sharing cups/water bottles/food or drinks.

For more information on respiratory viruses and other illnesses causing outbreaks in Oregon schools (such as Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease), please visit the Health Services website at https://sherwood.k12.or.us/departments/health-services/resources.

Transportation Department Updates

  • Snow Routes are posted on our Transportation Department page and can be found here. When Snow Routes are activated, service will be limited on all routes except for 1, 8, 9, 12, 14, and 18, which will not be affected. For all other routes, please review if your stop will be impacted during an inclement weather event.

  • After Thanksgiving break, rural routes will service all grade levels together in order to improve the arrival time to our secondary schools. All route changes will be reflected in the Ride 360 app on Tuesday, November 22nd and will take effect on Monday, November 28th. Regardless of whether or not you live in a rural area, check the Ride 360 app because your bus stop time may change. If you do not have the Ride 360 app, you can find directions on how to install the app and register your student(s) at the link below. You will need your student(s) ID number(s) and the birthdate(s) must be entered in the following format MM/DD/YYYY.

Special Education Parent Partnership

The Student Services Department invites parents to join Sherwood School District's monthly Special Education Parent Partnership meetings. These meetings provide an opportunity to build relationships, learn more about special education, and network with professionals and parents who have a passion for supporting students with disabilities.
