They land they found was the Bahamas which he mistook for Spain, he also found a Native American tribe who they traded with. He returned to Spain in 1493 and then in 1502 he asked King Ferdinand for one more voyage which will be his last, he had and unsuccessful voyage and had a rescue party come get him and his crew in 1504. 2 years later Columbus died in 1506.

Journal Entry
It was August, 3, 1492 when I set sail from Spain to find a water route to Asia. I was on the ship known as the Santa Maria when on a long journey for 2 months me and my crew finally found land, we arrived on the land and called in San Salvador. We then left the island and for about 5 months we studied parts of the Caribbean. When I arrived back in Spain I wrote a letter to King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella the two people who funded my expedition. I asked King Ferdinand for one more expedition in 1502 and he accepted my request. My expedition failed and I then returned back in 1504.
