Mason Moose Minutes November 12
Teamwork it is! One Mason, One Family, One Team!
Message from the Principal
Happy Friday!
First and foremost I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of our dear veterans a Happy Veterans Day on behalf of the entire Mason team! We truly thank each and every one of our dear veterans for their service and sacrifice to our country, and all of us Americans, day in and day out!
This week the read aloud that was shared with our Mason family on Monday was Say Hello, by Rachel Isadora. Students heard how to say hello in nine different languages with the tenth of course being the English language! As a team we took pride in learning these greetings! We also had students participate in the morning announcements, teaching their peers how to say hello and goodbye in languages, which they know how to speak, or have learned how to speak in! A special shout out goes to Ms. Karen Cole one of our kindergarten teachers, who had her class write a letter wanting to learn the greetings in these languages, and build upon this within her classroom community!
We are excited to share that the Mason team have received additional iPads to incorporate within our instruction and further address the needs of our dear students! These iPads purchased with Title I funds are being delivered to each K-2nd grade classroom with a charging case!
A special shoutout goes to Mr. and Mrs. Sledz for their support, leadership, planning and facilitation of the silly string battles, along with the lunch with me, for all of our students who earned these prizes based on the Fun/Color Run fundraising they completed! I want to thank Ms. York as well who joined us and provided support! The fun and laughter we shared with our dear students truly made our hearts smile! Last, but certainly not least, I want to thank Ms. English for her thoughtfulness in taking time from her Sunday to provide us with refreshments and water for our Open House this past weekend!
To all of the families and students who donated to our Thanksgiving Food Drive, thank you, thank you, thank you! Ms. Rokicki, our school social worker, will be working hard to be sure these go to families in need!
As I often tell our dear students, I believe in them, and I want them to believe in themselves! Thank you sincerely for your ongoing support and partnership in addressing our students' needs. We continue to move forward as One Mason, One Family, One Team! If you need anything in the meantime, please know you can contact me via email at Hassana@gpschools.org or by phone at (313) 432-4404. As always....Teamwork it is! Together we learn, we lead, and we lift!

Cold Weather is here!
Morning Arrival & Dismissal Reminders
* Students should not be playing at the playground in the morning or on the blacktop. Please kindly remind your student.
* Please DO NOT PARK, nor double park on Charlevoix Rd as this is a drop off area during morning arrival and dismissal times. We want to be proactive about this so that parents are not ticketed for parking there, and students are safe to be dropped off.
* Additionally, during morning arrival, let us try to park in the parking spots which tend to be available if you intend to walk your child to the blacktop, and please DO NOT PARK in the drop off circle so that it indeed is a drop off circle for all students to be dropped off safely.
Volunteers
We would love to welcome volunteers to come and assist with lunch recess! This is kindly held outside weather permitting, so please dress appropriately.
An IChat needs to be filled out and ran 24hrs prior to volunteering, if one is needed we can send one home with your student or you can pick one up from the office.
To all of our dear parents who have been joining us, know that YOU and your time is truly appreciated! Your presence is making a difference and your involvement is so valuable!
If you have any questions please don't hesitate to reach out to Cindy Lyon in the main office at 313-432-4411.

Mason Green Team - WASTE FREE WEDNESDAY CHALLENGE!
Go Green this school year and cut back on lunchroom waste!
What is a Waste free lunch?
A waste-free lunch creates no trash that goes in the landfill.
Here’s some tips to avoid creating waste and show respect for our environment:
Eat everything you are served or save it for another time. Avoid throwing food out.
Use reusable containers/tupperware, rather than throwing out plastic bags. Take home containers and plastics to wash out and reuse.
Use reusable water bottles.
Use reusable lunch carriers, rather than disposable brown paper bags.
Recycle plastic bottles into the designated water bottle recycling receptacle located in lunchroom.
