PRE-K 4 NEWS!!
JUAN DIEGO ACADEMY 9-15-2015
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
We continue to work with the children on discipline and routines. Many have become adapted to our schedule and our different daily activities. We are noticing that the children are learning to interact with each other and are forming friendships. Some are struggling with listening skills and following directions but we are only half way into the first month of school. We are confident that they will improve.
The beautiful thing we are witnessing is the Spanish phrases they use with us to communicate their needs. They are enjoying our songs and circle games that we do in Spanish everyday. Ms. Margetts came in to observe our small group lessons and was so happy to see the children so engaged in learning. Ms. Dempsey also came in and helped me out with a color game where we sing a song and ask,"Donde esta algo rojo?"Then the children look around the room for an object that color. Ms. Dempsey was running around and enjoying every minute!

Curriculum News:
What did we learn about this week?
Math: Children are sorting out objects according to number and color. They are also doing a counting art project using tissue paper and glue. With playdough, we are making apples for an apple tree template they each have and then we throw a dice and remove the apples they made back into the cans. We are also playing shape and color biingo during Math. Lots of fun tub activities each day.
Oral Language Development: This week we worked on learning vocabulary having to do with families. They learned to point at specific family members. They learned to distinguish family members into two groups: female and male. They also learned two songs about the family. We saw photographs of their own families! They were so excited to share their family photos and be able to identify members in Spanish. They also practiced big and small by comparing baby pictures of themselves with pictures when they were big.
Estrellitas: This week in our phonic program, the children worked on recognizing three new sounds. We do not teach the name of the letters only the sounds. They worked on pre-writing skills by learning to hold pencil correctly and applying pressure as they trace.
Art: Our art project this week was stamping with real apples on a painting of a tree trunk they painted earlier last week.
Have a wonderful weekend! Sincerely, Sra. Raquel y Sra. Farias
