Principal's Point
Time sure flies when you're having fun! We've got 34 days left on this year's learning journey and our scholars continue to amaze me. They are working harder than ever to make sure they are well-prepared for next school year. Now is a good time to connect with your child's teacher to check on progress and to find out ways to support learning at home. As always, thank you for being our partners in your child's learning!

Supporting Learning At Home - A Focus on Writing
We're continuing our focus on writing. Here are some ways to support your scholar's writing development at home:
- Since scholars are expected to read every day, why not have them write about whaty they read. This does not have to be a long task at all! Keep it simple and have your child write a sentence or two that summarizes their reading, something that they learned, or a prediction that they have.
- Grab any photo, even a digital one saved on a phone or tablet and have your child write about it. They can write about what happened that day, a descriptive piece about the setting, or even a short story. Kids love using pictures to write, so why not use ones that they know a lot about already to get them writing?
- One writing skill that scholars love to practice is using figurative language. They love to write similes and metaphors, pack a sentence full of alliteration, and write using personification and exaggeration. Have your child find an object in your home and write about it using figurative language. They can simply write a sentence with one form of figurative language or a paragraph with several.

Reporting Cases of COVID-19
Please continue to keep scholars home if they are not feeling well and have symptoms that are associated with Covid-19. Reach out to our registrar, Erika Bryant, to alert her to your child's absence so that they absence can be excused. Please note that scholars who are absent for 3 days or more must return with a written excuse, preferably from a doctor. We thank you for doing your part to keep our school healthy. We, too, are working to keep everyone healthy and safe by minimizing touchpoints, limiting the sharing of materials, cleaning common areas more frequently, misting classrooms nightly, spacing scholars out in the cafeteria during lunch, having classes play in separate recess zones, reminding scholars to wash their hands for at least 20 seconds whenever they go to the restroom, frequently using hand sanitizer and keeping hand sanitizing stations located throughout the campus, having masks available to anyone who would like to wear one, and using bottle fillers instead of the water fountains.
Rainy Day Dismissal vs. Severe Weather Dismissal
Timbers has 2 types of inclement weather dismissal:
1. RAINY DAY DISMISSAL
LIGHT RAIN ONLY, NO WARNINGS
Electronic Notification (text/email) to parents by 2:45 pm.
Inform your child’s teacher if your child has permission to walk/bike home in light rain. Scholars who cannot walk/bike home in light rain will be dismissed as either front car riders (front walkers/bikers) OR back car riders (back walkers/bikers).
Back car riders are dismissed from the cafeteria and front car riders are dismissed from the front hallway.
Rainy day dismissal can become severe weather dismissal if conditions change.
2. SEVERE WEATHER DISMISSAL: ALL SCHOLARS WILL BE DISMISSED AS CAR RIDERS
HEAVY RAIN, LIGHTNING, OR WARNINGS
Electronic Notification (text/email) to parents by 2:45 pm.
NO scholars will be allowed to walk or bike home and will be dismissed as either front car riders (front walkers/bikers) OR back car riders (back walkers/bikers). If conditions improve scholars will be permitted to walk or bike home at 4:00 pm.
Welcome Lunch Visitors!
1. The lunch visitor days are assigned in order to allow us to maintain safe distances in the cafeteria. Exceptions will not be made for visitors who come to have lunch with scholars on days other than those designated below.
2. Scholars will not be pulled from class to have lunch at a time other than their regular lunch time.
3. Teachers on duty in the cafeteria are not able to have parent conferences while they are on duty.
4. Parents/guardians may only bring outside food for their child(ren). Due to food allergies and dietary restrictions, food may not be shared with other scholars.
5. Scholars are expected to follow the direction of teachers and staff on duty. Please support this expectation during your visit.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to us at 281-641-2000.
