Social Science Department
The Social Science Department has a collective objective that focuses on teaching historical thinking skills; contextualization, sourcing, close reading, and corroboration, in conjunction with our content established by California State Standards and Framework. We pride ourselves on creating a student-centered academic environment that fosters individual growth.
VIRTUAL REGION 03 LEADERSHIP AND SKILLS CONFERENCE
The Rowland High School Skills USA team achieved great success at the recent Virtual Region 03 Leadership and Skills Conference. Out of the 42 contestants who completed it, an impressive 21 students earned an invitation to the State competition, making this the largest and most successful group of winners yet.
Of the 21 contestants, 15 students medaled in various categories, showcasing their outstanding skills and expertise. Collin Chen won Gold for Computer Programming, while sisters Wan Ling Lin and Yunzhi Lin took home Gold for Mobile Robotics Technology. David Yang, Ethan Tovar, and Lucas Mikhail were awarded Silver for Automated Manufacturing Technology, while Matthew Manco received Silver for Automotive Service Technology. Orion Chen won Silver for Computer Programming. Noah Cruz and Joshua Narciso received Bronze for Additive Manufacturing, and Eason Liu and Anthony Tan received Bronze for Mobile Robotics Technology. Matthew Chang won Bronze for Technical Design, Tim Xi won Bronze for Technical Drafting, and Ruby Wu won Bronze for Architectural Drafting.
"We are incredibly proud of our students for their hard work and dedication to achieving success in this competition," said Professor Michael Frausto, the Skills USA advisor at Rowland High School. "Their achievements demonstrate the exceptional skills and talents that they possess, and we are confident that they will continue to excel in the State competition."
The State competition will be held at the Ontario Convention Center, where the Rowland High School team will compete against other talented students from across the state. The team is eager to continue its winning streak and showcase its skills again.
Rowland High School Drumline
The world-class Rowland Drumline had a great weekend on March 18, performing at Temescal Canyon High School at a competition hosted by the Southern California Percussion Alliance. They earned 1st place for their concert performance, and they earned 3rd place for their marching performance! You can come to watch them perform at their annual showcase on Saturday, April 29th at the Rowland High School gym.

Rowland High School Colorguard
The Rowland High School Colorguard performed at Glen A Wilson High School on March 18th at a competition hosted by the Winter Guard Association of Southern California, where they placed 2nd in their division! Their championship competition will take place on April 22nd at the Cal State Long Beach Pyramid, and their last performance will occur here at the Rowland High School gym on Saturday, April 29th!
Rowland High School Orchestra
The Rowland High School Orchestra earned a Unanimous Superior rating (the highest rating possible) at a competition hosted by the Southern California Schools Band and Orchestra Association at Beckman High School on Wednesday, March 13th. You can come and see them perform alongside all of the string instrumentalists in the district at the RUSD String Festival Concert on April 5th at Nogales High School’s gym.
Maker Space Club STEM Event
On March 17, Shelyn Elementary teachers Grace Voong and Tammy Honda brought their 2nd and 3rd grade students to participate in a Maker event at Rowland High School. Under the supervision of Rowland's Maker Space students, Shelyn students built catapults and launched cotton balls at targets.
