How to BE at BAE!!
This week the students in grades 1 - 4 have been learning about what it takes to be a good citizen at Blue Ash Elementary in all of these areas. It all comes down to the 4 Be's - Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible and Be a Problem Solver. Some classrooms have even discussed another important trait - to Be Kind!! What a great community of learners this makes!
Today we ended our learning with an assembly where we had a little fun with the 4 Be's. Our staff put on fun skits and tested our knowledge of How to Be at BAE. We even had a visit from Captain Responsibility!!
Please take some time to ask your child about their first days of school - meeting new and old friends, what they learned about in class, and about the 4 Be's!
Air Conditioning Update
We want to share how proud we are of our staff and students for problem solving, staying positive, and remaining focused on making this a great start to the year.
And a big THANK YOU to our wonderful PTO for supplying us with popsicles to keep us extra cool at recess. We all appreciate the sweet treat!
Parents, please join us for our Welcome Back Cafe!!!
Hope to see you all!! - August 20, 9:30, Blue Ash Elementary Cafeteria.
Safety at Sycamore Community Schools
Sycamore Community Schools continues to take the lead in being proactive in our approach towards combating these violent acts. For instance;
All new hires are trained in A.L.I.C.E. as well as yearly reviews with all staff through “table-top” scenarios in each building conducted by me. https://www.alicetraining.com/our-program/alice-training/k12-education/
Required Drills or Rapid Dismissals for Educational Occupancies
The Safe & Secure Schools Committee consists of administrators, school psychologist, teachers, first responders and a few parents. The committee meets four times per year and focuses on issues and trends facing school safety.
Sycamore Community Schools maintains an excellent working relationship with our local first responders who continue to keep the district updated with latest trends preparing staff and students for traumatic events such as a school shooting.
The district seeks out training opportunities for key staff who can share first hand updated information and tactics needed to address these threats. This training includes certified A.L.I.C.E. instructors, mental health professionals providing professional development to staff on early warning signs, as well as monthly correspondence to staff addressing school safety.
As we move forward with the possibility of building and renovating our facilities, we have begun discussions with our architects regarding the latest safety features for educational facilities. These will play an important role in the design process and will include key first responders as well as safety professionals with structural security backgrounds.
At Blue Ash Elementary we practice all safety drills consistently throughout the year so that staff and students are best prepared. With the young age of our children, the most important thing we can share is for them to listen to their teacher, so they know exactly what to do in any event. As parents, you can support our efforts by talking with your child about the importance of being calm and quiet and following the teachers' directions.
An Apple for the Teacher?
Happy Friday! I hope your student had a great first week of school! It was so exciting to welcome our families into the new media center at Open House. You may have noticed some apples there. In our phenomenal space, students build, create, design, and engineer projects and challenges while engaging with high quality literature. As you can probably imagine, this requires quite a few supplies. The more supplies I can provide, the better quality experience our students receive. Many of these supplies may be in your house already! If you see an apple that you think you have or could donate please pull an apple off the wall across from the office. Then follow the directions below.
How To Win!
Choose and apple, take it home, and write your students name on it
Find the item in your house (it doesn’t matter if it is new, half used, or you just have a few of something left- I am just excited to have your support!
Return the item and apple to the media center by August 23rd.
On August 23rd I will draw 5 apples. The students on those apples will enjoy a donut party with me!

We hope you enjoy this video that shows the amazing transformation.
And check out the faces of our students when they saw it for the first time. :)
Summer Challenge
Students should be turning in their completed packets to teachers in order to join in the celebration and reward.
If your family is new...NO WORRIES! Your teacher will share information with you so your child has an opportunity to join in!
Summer Challenge packets can be accessed through the Blue Ash Elementary web page. Go to www.sycamoreschools.org > click on "Our Schools" > Click on "Blue Ash Elementary" > Click on "Summer Challenge" at the top, then find your child's grade.
