Student Focus Groups Continue
Superintendent Dr. Ted Stec has met with students at every elementary building and will soon be meeting with students at the middle school. Some general themes emerging from our elementary schools include the following:
Hands-On: Students prefer learning while doing; they like to build, create, investigate and be active participants.
Self-Directed: Students like to be in charge of their own learning. They rely on platforms like YouTube to research and teach themselves new skills. From jewelry making to learning how to play an instrument, science experiments to drawing, our students like taking charge and teaching themselves how to master certain skills.
Collaboration: Whether it be peer reviews or working together in small groups, many of our students prefer collaborative assignments. While they do need time to work independently, they enjoy the dynamic of learning from each other and engaging in active discussions.
Dr. Stec launched the initiative to meet with students at every school throughout the school year as a means to continually understand and connect with their interests.
Testing Program in District 44
Earlier this month, the district developed a partnership with TriLabs to perform optional, onsite testing for students and staff who are symptomatic. Testing for students is only conducted if parental consent has been provided. It is also the responsibility of the parents and staff member to provide the results of the test to their school.
The district's goal through this partnership is to provide faster results to our families, students and staff by only servicing our school community. This is important as local testing sites continue to experience higher demand.
