ESS Weekly Family Update

Week ending 5/19/23

Update from Mrs. Weber

Thanks to the PTO for the meetings all year and thank you to all the volunteers who have made this year so great. The PTO has so many exciting thigs planned for next year already. I hope you can find time to attend and assist.

NWEA testing has started in first and second grade. The students are working so hard and taking their time-I am so excited to see what the growth will show

TRAFFIC REMINDER--ALL traffic must flow one way mornings and afternoons! You enter through Soundview and exit through Willoughby. Your assistance with this is greatly appreciated to keep everyone safe

We will not accept any changes in dismissal after 2:45-there are no exceptions to this policy. This is for the safety of your child-changes made that late often are not communicated accurately. Thank you for your help with this.

Parents should NOT be parking in the fire lanes along the back parking lot at pick up-it is against fire code to do so. If you do not do the pick up, please let the people know who do so. I still have multiple cars parking there each day

Parents should not be parking so that you are blocking in any other cars, especially if you are staying and allowing your children to play. Staff cars should not be blocked at any time. There are plenty of spaces along the top row to park.

If you have plans to move before the start of the new school year, please email Mrs. Quinlan (dquinlan@sheltonpublicschools.org) This helps us in making class lists. The staff and I devote much time and thought when placing your child in a class. Parental requests for specific teacher placements will not be considered; however, if there are any special circumstances or consideration regarding class placement, please notify me via email

Please be sure children are sent with appropriate footwear. We have had several students injured on the playground running in crocs and flip flops. Flip flops, slides, slippers and crocs without back straps are dangerous and not allowed to be worn at school. If your child does not have a back strap on their crocs, they are not allowed to be wearing them at school and will not be able to participate in running around at recess.

We are continuing to have parents walk into the nurse's room without permission. If you are here at school volunteering or reading to classrooms, you may not go into the nurse's office without checking in at the office first or having a scheduled appointment. We have students with complex medical needs that require privacy and having unexpected people in the office violates that. Thank you for your anticipated cooperation with this matter.

Have a great weekend--

Budget Updates

Dear Parents,

As you may know the budget is currently being worked on. We are hoping for a budget that is fully funded as proposed from the BOE. At this time, the amount allotted from the mayor is significantly less. If this remains, up to 50 positions may be eliminated. Being that ESS is the largest elementary school, these cuts will directly impact class sizes with the potential of 30 or more students in a classroom at ESS.

The alderman need to hear from you that this is not ok and we expect better for the ESS students and teachers. If you do not reach out, they think everyone is good with what is proposed.

Please email or call Anthony Simonetti (Ward 1 Alderman) mlmadm@aol.com or (203) 605-7712 to let him know your thoughts on the proposed budget funding

Feel free to contact Mrs. Weber for more information
