Hamilton Boys' High School

Newsletter 5, September 2019

Dear parents, homestay families and agents

It has been a hectic and exciting start to Term 3 with the arrival of two Japanese short stay groups.

On the first day of term, we welcomed 12 boys from the Kanto Super League. The programme, called Game On English, is a collaboration between Education NZ and Fonterra and it provides elite Japanese high school rugby players with the opportunity to develop and use their English Language skills and enjoy specialist rugby coaching and training in a New Zealand high school. It was an honour for our school was selected for this programme and it was an absolute pleasure to work with these enthusiastic young men.

The photos capture just some of the many highlights of their time with us.

In Week 3, we welcomed back Hozen High School. This year's group was very lively and they all seemed to have a great time. Their farewell concert at the end of the 2 weeks showcased how much confidence many of them had gained to speak in English and how grateful they were to their wonderful homestay families.

ERO Report for Hamilton Boys' High School

At the start of the term, the ERO team was at our school for two weeks to observe, interview and report on our policies and practices. ERO is the Education Review Office that evaluates and reports on the education and care of students in every school in New Zealand.

Their report on our school has now been completed and it will be available to read on our school website in the coming weeks. The report was overwhelmingly positive and we are very proud of our ERO rating as Strong, the highest rating ERO can award. This places us amongst the top 2% of schools in New Zealand that have received this rating.

Upcoming Events - Ultimate Rotorua Canopy Tour

On Sunday the 15th, 20 boys have signed up to do the Ultimate Canopy Tour in Rotorua with Ann and me. It is going to be a memorable day for us all and I am proud of this group of boys for embracing an opportunity to 'unplug' for the day, enjoy the beauty of our natural bush and experience the thrill of walking across suspension bridges, abseiling and zip-lining through the sky.

I can't wait to share the photos of our day. Click on the video to see this amazing adventure.
