"As long as our love for Jesus in the Sacrament of his love is a love only for the Head, without sincere and warm affection for our brothers and sisters, without interest in the spiritual or physical needs of His members, our spiritual life will remain stunted and incomplete” ~ Thomas Merton
Greetings Everyone,
Today is the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ also known as the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, which translates from Latin to "Body of Christ." This feast originated in France in the mid-thirteenth century and was extended to the whole Church by Pope Urban IV in 1264.
This feast calls us to focus on two manifestations of the Body of Christ, the Eucharist and the Church. At every Mass our attention is called to the Eucharist and the Real Presence of Christ in it. The secondary focus of this feast is upon the Body of Christ as it is present in the Church. The Church is called the Body of Christ because of the intimate communion which Jesus shares with his disciples. He expresses this in the gospels by using the metaphor of a body in which He is the head.
The image of the Body of Christ helps keep in focus both the unity and the diversity of the Church. As Catholics, we believe that Eucharist is both a noun and a verb. We ARE the Body of Christ and we are called to BE the Body of Christ with our life's actions, choices, and decisions. Today especially, we are called to eliminate the cancers of racism and discrimination which plague our church, campus, country, and world. Please use the reference found below as tools to assist you in your discernment on how you are called to actively respond to the call to action today's feast requires of each of us.
Pax et Bonum,
~ Jamie
THURSDAY: In the Words Our Savior Taught Us, Prayer and Worship Night via Zoom
At times like these, it can be hard to pray.
Honestly.
Maybe we feel paralyzed by fear. Maybe we feel overwhelmed with sadness and grief. Maybe we feel drained - physically, emotionally, spiritually. Maybe we feel angry at God.
Even when we find our way to our knees, it can still be hard to find the words. Fortunately, we have a God who already knows our hearts…..and a Savior who taught us how to pray. When we don’t have the words we can say:
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done;
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power and the glory,
for ever and ever.
Amen.
On Thursday, June 18th, at 7:00PM, on the eve of the Feast of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, let’s join together for an hour/evening of worship and prayer, surrounding these...the words our Savior taught us.
