April 20, 2020 Weekly Update
Galena Park I.S.D. Employee Newsletter
A MESSAGE FROM OUR SUPERINTENDENT
April 20, 2020
Dear Galena Park I.S.D. Staff,
All of you have seen the reminder, "Objects in the mirror are larger than they appear." Recent news reports have been hopeful, due to large numbers of people staying home, and practicing social distancing when they must leave home to go various places. It seems we are beginning to see some areas of progress in the fight against the COVID-19 virus--the "object in the mirror" is getting smaller as we move farther and farther away from it.
While it is important we acknowledge progress, we have not yet won the war against COVID-19. We must continue to proceed with caution and to do everything in our power to save ourselves and the ones we love from falling victim to this awful disease that has already afflicted so many.
By now, you all should be well-familiarized with our new grading guidelines, and your students should be responding to their assigned schoolwork. I have been very pleased to see and hear anecdotal accounts of our teachers extending much-needed and much-deserved grace to their students and moving forward, I am hopeful it will continue. This situation has not been easy on any of us, but WOW! We are getting VERY GOOD at making the best of all the curveballs life throws at us! Way to go, GPISD!
As you know, Governor Abbott has ordered schools to remain closed for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. Galena Park I.S.D. will continue to provide distance learning and Curbside Meal service to our students.
I continue to remind you, it is critically important for each of us to do our part to lessen the spread of the COVID-19 virus in our community. I urge you to adhere to the Stay Home, Work Safe order as long as our local officials deem it necessary. Each of you, and your loved ones, continue to be in my thoughts and prayers. Be safe, wear those masks, wash your hands, and stay at least six feet away from others. If we each continue to do our part, the COVID-19 crisis will soon be invisible in our rear-view mirrors.
Sincerely,
Angi Williams, Ed.D.
