Principal's Message to Hornet Families for the week of May 23rd, 2021
I hope everyone is enjoying this Sunday with loved ones. Can you believe this unorthodox school year is almost over? As I reflect on this year, I recognize the gains we have made in educational technology and the awareness we've gained on social issues as well. Although this year was not planned we made the best of it and grew in ways we never imagined. Our teachers have grown professionally and our scholars have grown resilience in the face of adversity. None of these gains take place without the support of a community like this. I thank you all for your support this year, especially during Teacher Appreciation Week. I am honored to serve this community and look forward to a great school closure during this last week and a half. If you have not signed up to volunteer for the 8th grade celebration, feel free to do so here: KMS 8th grade celebration.

AISD Student Chromebooks
Any students, 8th graders included, who were issued either the older Dell 11 Chromebooks or the Toshiba Chromebooks are asked to bring them to the main office or library so that we can exchange them for different models for when the student returns to school after summer break. Again, please be sure to include the charger and have your student’s name and ID number taped to the equipment. This should be done during the school day up to June 3rd or on the distribution day on the 4th.
If you have any questions, please e-mail Kealing’s librarian and student device manager at Kerensa.Williams@austinisd.org

AISD to Continue Free Meals through the 2020-21 School Year
The Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) recently announced an extension of current school meal programs through the 2020-21 school year. Through the federally-funded program, all Austin ISD students will receive free school meals through June 3, the last day of school.
For students participating in remote, off-campus learning, free 7 day meal packs will be available each Thursday at more than 40 curbside locations throughout Austin. While Austin ISD plans to continue curbside service as long as needed, meal sites are subject to change as more students transition to on-campus learning.
Curbside meal sites and more information can be found here
Austin ISD COVID-19 Dashboard
Austin ISD is committed to putting health and safety protocols in place that will prevent the occurrence and/or spread of COVID-19. However, we must be prepared to quickly and effectively respond to and communicate a lab-confirmed or suspected case of COVID-19 at a school or other Austin ISD facility.
The Austin ISD COVID-19 Dashboard will be updated by noon each Tuesday, starting the week of Sept. 21. All lab-confirmed positive cases on campuses will be communicated directly to the campus community. Individuals who may have been exposed will be contacted directly and provided information on the next steps, including a quarantine timeline if needed.
Support Kealing and order your spirit wear today! Orders can be picked up during school hours February 4th and 5th (first Thursday and Friday of the month).
