Happy Sunday fantastic family members,

I hope everyone is enjoying this Sunday with loved ones. Can you believe this unorthodox school year is almost over? As I reflect on this year, I recognize the gains we have made in educational technology and the awareness we've gained on social issues as well. Although this year was not planned we made the best of it and grew in ways we never imagined. Our teachers have grown professionally and our scholars have grown resilience in the face of adversity. None of these gains take place without the support of a community like this. I thank you all for your support this year, especially during Teacher Appreciation Week. I am honored to serve this community and look forward to a great school closure during this last week and a half. After students started virtual learning in March of 2020, many families picked up Chromebooks from various AISD technology distributions sites, such as Crockett HS or the PAC. Any district devices you have that are not being used or are no longer needed can be returned to Kealing’s main office or library anytime during the school day up to June 3rd or during our distribution day on June 4th. For any Chromebooks you return, please include the charger and have the student’s name and ID number taped to the equipment so that it can be checked in and removed from your student’s record. 8th graders will be taking their district Chromebooks with them to high school. If you are planning to leave AISD please be sure to return any devices belonging to the district to the main office by June 3rd.
Any students, 8th graders included, who were issued either the older Dell 11 Chromebooks or the Toshiba Chromebooks are asked to bring them to the main office or library so that we can exchange them for different models for when the student returns to school after summer break. Again, please be sure to include the charger and have your student’s name and ID number taped to the equipment. This should be done during the school day up to June 3rd or on the distribution day on the 4th.

The GEMS Camp (Girls interested in Engineering, Science, and Mathematics) is recruiting 7th-9th grade girls for our summer e-Camp! Our mission is to change the face of those who can access and excel in STEM studies and careers. We focus on whole-girl development via our 5 Karat Gems - Academics, Career, Creativity, Leadership, and Service.

This is a $1,200 investment of resources that we offer for $200 for students who qualify for free/reduced lunch and $875 for those who do not. However, we have scholarships for any family who needs financial assistance.

Austin ISD Student Enrollment

These virtual camps are designed as an opportunity for students to deepen their algebra readiness skills in preparation to take Accelerated Math 7 or Algebra I in the 2021 - 2022 school year.

• Dates: Wednesday, July 14th - Thursday, July 29th (No Fridays)

• Time: 10:00 -12:00 pm

• Platform: Zoom & BLEND

Students will participate in synchronous learning via Zoom from 10:00 am - 11:00 am each day with a teacher. In addition to synchronous learning, students will complete Blend modules to support their continued learning from 11:00 - 12:00 pm. Summer Bridge teachers will stay connected during this asynchronous time to answer questions. It is important that students make a commitment to attend all 10 days and complete all Blend modules to maximize the benefits of participating.

Space is limited to 100 students for Algebra Readiness and 50 students for 7th grade Accelerated. Please share registration flyers with students and families who would most benefit from this opportunity.

We are excited to announce that our third 2-sided flyer with mental health resources/strategies

will be distributed to parents/families during Austin ISD food distributions next week. We plan

to create a new Mental Wellness flyer/Smore every two weeks. These

resources are part of a collaboration between Child Study Systems, Social and Emotional

Learning, Health Services, Family and Community Engagement, and Austin ISD Communications.
