Early Years

Antonio Vivaldi was born in 1678 to a large family. There was not much information about his family, but we do know that he had four brothers and four sisters, and that his fathers name was Giovanni Battista. As soon as he was born he was baptized due to the danger of death. Nobody really knows what this means or what was about to happen, but some people believe it to be a natural disaster or his poor health. We do know that at age 15 he began studying to be a priest. His only mentor/teacher was his father, who taught him the violin, which later turned into Vivaldi's passion.

The Legend of Vivaldi

Vivaldi is known as one of the greatest composers of all time. He struggled with severe asthma, but that did not stop him from creating great music. He became extremely famous and was invited to play the violin for the pope twice. He taught women to play instruments in concerts even though it was not considered proper for women to do so. Even with his medical disadvantage, Vivaldi was able to harness his talent and create revolutionary music that people today still listen to.
