Nuts and Bolts
Just sending out a reminder for those who have a 3rd-period class. Our Toy Drive "officially" starts Monday and will end on Friday. Please support our closest animal shelter and collect as many toys as possible. (I have heard that even old shoes count)
We have 50 blankets to donate for the animals and on Tuesday, October 29th, the shelter will come up and gather their donations and bring some of their furry friends with them to say Thank you!
EPI WEEK (not as fun as shark week, but just as important)
SHS is a very busy campus and we have people on campus outside of normal school hours on a regular basis. SISD currently has unassigned EpiPens available to use on anyone that has an anaphylactic emergency. However, there are times when a nurse or trained personnel are not present to administer these EpiPens. To remedy this issue, and to become compliant to Texas Administrative Code 37.601, all SHS staff will be trained in how to use an EpiPen. Here is what you need to know:
WHAT TO DO: watch two short videos (less than 10 minutes total) that cover the signs and symptoms of an anaphylactic reaction and how to actually use an EpiPen. You will also learn what to do if you do use it on someone, and how to dispose of the EpiPen after use. After watching the videos you will then perform a short skill check off with the nurse. That’s it!
WHEN IS SKILL CHECK OFF: October 28th to November 1st, before 1st period (7:45 to 8:15 am) or after 8th period (3:45 to 4:15 pm). If these times don’t work, reach out to the nurse and discuss other time options. This skill check-off should only take a few minutes; maybe even less than a minute!
WHERE TO GO: Nurse’s office.
HOW TO DO SKILL CHECK:
Skill check-off will be practicing giving an injection with an EpiPen trainer, and correctly identifying where the EpiPens are stored. (Front hallway by the office in a yellow box mounted next to the AED…just in case you haven't seen them.)
WATCH THE TWO VIDEOS THAT ARE LINKED BELOW IN THIS EMAIL BEFORE DOING SKILL CHECK OFF.

I LEAVE YOU WITH THIS...
"I remember a teacher telling me, “When you’re surrounded by superstars… it makes you want to be better than you are.” That’s the power of collaboration -- the power of collective efficacy." ~@SteeleThoughts
