During our library lessons, we have been working on a variety of projects. 5th graders have been practicing their research skills to learn about presidents. 4th graders have been completing a fairy tale writing assignment. 3rd graders have been reading and writing a wide range of poetry. 2nd graders are learning how to search for books in the library using the computers. 1st graders are exploring different genres. And Kindergarteners have been learning how Nonfiction books give us information.
We continue to mix Makerspace activities along with our library lessons as a time for students to be creators with STEAM projects every other week. There will be an opportunity for parents to see and participate with Makerspace at Open House.
Spring is a very busy time in the library with many special events coming up soon! In February, we had a wonderful visit with author Polly Holyoke who shared with all of the students. Our Scholastic Book Fair will be the week of April 16-20, and Reading Ambassador Week will be April 30-May 4. We are looking forward to all the special visitors from the community who will be reading to the students.
Students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade who read at least five of the Texas Bluebonnet Award nominees got the opportunity to vote for their favorite of the books. I am happy to announce that our Barksdale winner was The Last Kids on Earth by Max Brailler. All students can get started on reading next year’s list!
Parents and students can connect with the library and its resources at any time from home. Please contact Mrs. Edwards for more information if you are interested.
It’s a wonderful Spring at the Barksdale Library!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Edwards
