Notices and dates to remember:

This week's Book Fair was a HUGE success. Thanks to all the parents in our PTA who worked so hard to put this event together.

MAP testing will begin next week. As this is the first time students are taking it, this will be an information gathering assessment. I will be sending results in a week or 2.

Students do not need to study to prepare for MAPs. They SHOULD:

  • Get a really good night's sleep
  • Eat a healthy breakfast
  • Bring plenty of healthy food for snack and for lunch

Nov. 19: Parent Teacher Conferences. Thank you to everyone who has returned them. If you haven't yet, please do so as soon as possible. There is NO SCHOOL for students that day.

Nov. 26: NO SCHOOL - American Thanksgiving

ANYTIME: For our end-of-unit science project, students will be creating dioramas. If you have extra shoe boxes at home, please send them to school.

Reading

Students are applying their "voice" and expression when they read by "Reading like a Movie Star." This helps them to understand characters and their feelings better and can carry over into their own writing.

Writing

I was hoping to send home personal narratives today, but am still waiting for copies to be returned to me. They will be returned on Sunday instead.

This week, students began immersion into Realistic Fiction by listening to stories from this genre. We studied what is character looks like on the outside and what they might be like on the inside. We discussed author's crafts and made planning strategies. Lastly, we each made our Tiny Ideas Notebook and wrote down at least 1 idea for our first story.

Math

Students are practicing rounding to the nearest 10, determining if a number is odd or even and finding number patterns in math.

Next week we will begin 2 digit addition.

Science

Students are learning more about animal ecosystems or habitats, the life cycle of a butterfly and the lifecycle of a frog.
