Principal's message - week 34
Greetings North Plains Families!
We made it to spring break! Woo hoo! And as I write this, the snow is coming down in big beautiful flakes, crazy!
As you likely know, we have some AMAZING volunteers here at North Plains Elementary School. One volunteer who truly stands out is G-pa Ron. If you haven't met this wonderful man, you are missing out. He volunteers 2+ times a week, primarily in Ms. Debolt's kinder class, but has served in other classrooms as well. He not only works with the students, he also is an ambassador for our school. He constantly talks about how wonderful our teachers, staff, and students are and what a great school we have here. Often he brings treats for the students and/or staff, and most of all, he brings a smile, a hug, and lots of love!
I've nominated G-pa Ron for the Volunteer of the Year award given by the city of North Plains. There is a celebration dinner where the award winners will be announced on April 12, 6:30 - 8:00 PM at Jessie Mays Community Hall. They are offering a free pizza dinner to all who attend. I hope you will join me to support G-pa Ron!
Along the same lines, don't forget that Ms. Rachel will be honored at the Annual Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce Crystal Apple Award Dinner on April 19. The event takes place at NW Events and Environments, 2900 NE Century Blvd. #100. Tickets are $60.00 and must be purchased in advance. Go to https://hillsborochamberor.com/events/crystalapple/ for more information.
Spring pictures are coming soon, hopefully you received a flyer yesterday! On April 11, all 6th grade students will have photos taken for the completion certificates, and students in all that want to purchase pictures will need to bring in picture packets in order to have their photos taken. There aren't re-takes for these, so please try to be here!
A community event that is coming up is "Stride for Seniors" to support Meals on Wheels. The event will be Sunday, April 22 from 10AM - 1PM at the Portland International Raceway. Our North Plains team is called "Pioneers of North Plains" and the captain is Angie Boyd from the NP Senior Center. You can register at http://strideforseniors.org
Have a restful and fun spring break!
Becky
